Local Maldivian Experience
Stay with Local Maldivian; Backpackers Paradise; Friendly Staff
6.3
Stay at Maafushi can suit for only 2 categories - intent to interact with local Maldivian culture; Cheaper stay having daily excursion to narby beaches and/ or resorts. One can not have high expectations about luxury and servicing from Maafushi Inn. However the staff is very friendly and ensured that the stay remains very memorable.
There is not much to see on the island. However, it gets cheaper to stay on the island and have a daily escape to other islands and resorts. The owner provided us very good and economical excursion option.

Booked a room online but upon arrival, they had overbooked and had no rooms. That happened to another couple as well. They managed to find us room at another, more expensive hotel, close by and they paid for eh difference so all good in the end.

Booked this hotel and upon arrival, they told me they were full and could not accommodate me, so they arranged for me to stay at another hotel on the island. This happened to several guests and was very annoying.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Beautiful island

Fazaa Inn - A 5star experience
the staff, the rooms, and the courtyard
9.7
They say, that it's the staff of a particular hotel that makes your travel all that more fullfilling, and I have to admit, the staff at Fazaa Inn, did exactly that - they made our trip one that we will remember forever and always cherish. The warmth with which we were greeted with, was unlike any other reception we have had in any other hotel. My wife and I spent 6 days at Fazaa Inn, and we have absolutely no complaints. The rooms were spic and span, cleaned everyday, sometimes even twice. The breakfast was just what you needed before heading out. Zaki, Shifa and Hassan made sure everything was in place before we headed out. They organised some wonderful trips to the nearby islands, and since we were travelling on a budget, they made sure that we got the best deals with the boat trips which can sometimes prove to be a little expensive. Apart from being such warm hosts, they were also very kind enough to share experiences with them about their country, which they didn't really need to do. They arranged snorkeling gear for us, for free, something that you would otherwise have to pay a hefty fee of 10 dollars, for only two hours. They also arranged a barbeque for us, along with some lovely local bodberu music, which was simply a fantastic insight into the life of a Maldivian. One of the staff members were even kind enough to take me fishing to a local pier. Fishing is something I have always wanted to do, but never got a chance to do, but with these guys, they made that possible, and I even managed to catch a fish!! Simply thrilling. Here again we managed to do an activity absolutely free of charge and did not have to shell out money for a fishing trip, which Fazaa organises as well. There's so much more that I can say, but it would be best if you experienced Fazaa Inn and the hospitality yourself. For someone who thought that Maldives was only for the rich, guess again, Fazaa Inn proves it to you that sometimes, you can have a great holiday, on a modest budget.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Go to Biyadhoo, the Picnic Island, Fun Island, Sexy Beach, Snorkelling, Diving, Local Shopping

Friendly hotel, but less great location
Hotelstaff is very nice, helpfull and friendly
6.7
Maafushi, the Island of the Local people where this hotel is located, is not a great Island in Maldives. The Island is pretty dirty and messy. There is for example a lot of trash and mess in the sea and near by the hotel. The hotel is also next to a Mosque, that's not a big problem though, but during Ramadam the praying will wake u up for sure. Besides that, you can't buy any alcohol on this Island. This is only possible on resort Islands. Though, for the price we stayed, we can't complain to much, can we? Maafushi has some excursions to other Island. For most of these Island you pay a small entreefee, cause these Islands are the real Resortislands, and over there it's wonderfull and a paradise in one word. Me and my sister did this kind of 'tours' everyday. PicknickIsland, Funisland and Bayundoo Island we really recommend for some relaxing and snorkling. In the evening we were back at our local Island. On the local Island itself, we did a nightfishing trip. After we had a barbeque with our own catched fish. This was a really - by the hotelowner organised- trip.
Breakfast is simple but ok. The staff who works at this hotel, is amazing. It's like youre involved in a small family. Rooms are clean and nice, aircondition is really modern and good, even as the TV in the livingroom is.
Travel tip:
Go everyday on a tour to resortislands. It's amazing. The people over there pay almost 5000 euros/dollars for 5 day/night over there, we only did 300 in Maafushi. But as we didn't liked the Island too much, we did excursions everyday. We had a lovely holiday.
Say to the hotelowner where u want to go the next day, and he will take care of transfer.
It will be a lot cheaper for u to pay in Rufhia, but on some resortIslands they only accept Dollar.
