round trip seaplane cost from Male to the Gangehi resort in the beginning. It was a big surprise. Seaplane company told us that their plane ticket for round trip to and from Gangehi . It seems that Ganghe resort is taking too much expensive toll from guests to stay their resort.

I travelled with my mother and we got upgraded to a family room which was comfortable - not as big as most hotel rooms, certainly, but more than enough for our needs. Comfortable beds, nice chairs outside for lounging, clean bathrooms well stocked with ayurvedic soap and shampoos which we loved. Gangehi is a tiny island which you can walk around in under 15 minutes. Beautiful garden area that is well taken care of, a lovely open air restaurant where all buffet meals were served (where you will eat should you choose to go full board), a nice bar built over the water with game boards should you have time to kill, free use of canoes, plentiful deck chairs on the beach. And the beach! I truly don't have the words- every gorgeous picture you may have seen of the maldives does not compare to the real thing. Turquoise ocean, white powdery sand, hermit crabs dotting the beach scurrying about their business. There is an awe inspiring sand bar which stretches out from the main beach - in low tide, you can walk out for twenty minutes and still be in ankle deep water. The water is crystal clear, and coming from singapore where the surrounding waters are sadly polluted - this was paradise. Bountiful fish in the sea should you choose to go snorkelling or diving - in shallow water I could stand in, I saw schools of parrotfish, trigger fish standing guard over their homes, moorish idols and surgeon fish (just keep swimming!)going about their business. Snorkelling with the resident marine biologist was a great experience - she was patient with my inexperience and taught me much. The resort offers excursions to see manta rays and whale sharks as well which I will be back to see 1 day.
Back to the food, which deserves its own paragraph - sublime. We enjoyed every meal. Mostly wholesome fresh fare but there was always a gorgeous dessert table you do not want to miss.
Only one word of caution - if you are not a diver, I think a 5-7 day trip is about all you should be aiming for.

We love the resort and we enjoyed our stay at Gangehi. The island, white sand, fishes, corals, sun, sky, clouds and even rain its just so perfect, nothing else I could ask for from this wonderful place. They completed our dream vacation in Maldives!

Overall this is a great place, I do not recommend getting half board. Food options outside buffet are very limited and not very good. Buffet cost w/o being full board is VERY expensive. Diving was superb. Room was excellent value.

The main issues:
- Italian managed hotel therefore different treatment when non Italian except from the dive centre which is not from the hotel (great staff)
- Our welcome was the most terrible experience ever .. needed to find out everything by ourselves ... but at the end they will give you a booklet to explain how to enjoy the facilities ... very weird.
- very limited variation of food style
- lot of families with young children which is noisy on a small island
The main highlights:
- Fantastic views from water bungalow
- Diving sites proximity very good
- great friendly local staff and dive centre staff (thank you Judhi and Domi)

Very good but felt it lacked some of the little extras you usually get at a 5-stay at this price; villa was lovely but could have been livened a bit with some flowers or adornments, or loungers on the deck; snorkels could have been provided free; water likewise.
