Beautiful island - amazing white sandy beach / bright turquoise waters with fantastic snorkelling on the coral reef! This was our second trip to the Maldives having previously stayed in a water villa in the 5* Velassaru resort on our honeymoon. We decided to revisit the Maldives as we loved it so much but wanted to do a slightly cheaper option. We were not disappointed either.
We stayed in beach bungalow no 136 at Thullagiri which had direct access to the beach. Some bungalows were not as fortunate as there is quite a lot of overgrowth. There is however a large spit where there is a plentiful white sandy beach for all guests on the island just round the corner. The beach villa was lovely; the room was clean and spacious with an excellent en-suite. I do not think the island was fumigated while we were there and my husband got bitten numerous times but this may have been due to the close proximity of the mangroves and the start of rainy season.
We did not find out until arrival that the speedboat transfer was 212USD for 2 people despite trying to contact hotel directly- this fee was not listed on agoda website who we used to book with. Wifi was surprisingly not included and charged at 6USD/hr. My only criticism, other than 2 poor macaws chained to a wooden bar all day for the guests pleasure, would be that the buffet, although plentiful in choice, gets a bit tedious and to have had an A La Carte option would have been nice. On our last night we were given the option to dine, still buffet, at the pool side under the stars along with a complementary caraffe of wine, which was a very nice touch.
Although the standard of accommodation / choice of restaurants and staff attentiveness could not compare to our previous 5* experience, Thulhagiri provides a good standard of accommodation / services for the price paid (circa £160 per night for the 2 of us on a half board basis). We would recommend to friends.

Do not spoil your honeymoon here

We were there from 2nd May till 4th May, and we have to say that we were very disappointed with the services that they provided. Poor customer service and poor hospitality. The check out time is 12pm, but the staffs would keep knocking your door since 1030am and it was very annoying to open the door every 10min.The worst part was even the staffs showed you unpleasant face outside the door and they even asked you to leave at 1145am. We ordered drinks from a waiter and we were shocked that he ignored us and asked us to order from other waiters and this actually happened few times during our stay. Then we requested tomato sauce and we were only able to get it after 15min. Besides, the resort provides very limited activities, only one activity per day. So I suggest those couples who want to spend their honeymoon in Maldives, pay a little bit more in other resorts such as Paradise Island Resort, we spend one night there and the staffs are much much more friendly than the Thulhagiri resort. You would not want the bad and unfriendly staffs to spoil your honeymoon. Overall, this is my first time and also my last time for this resort and I would not recommend this resort to anyone unless you looking for a budget resort and do not mind the poor services and limited activities.

Perfect, great room views of the ocean and access to beaches, alcohol available with friendly service. Could use more water sports. The food could have more variety. The beach bar was very friendly and good service. The boat tour was not good. The 1st island very poor and we were warned about the shops not being honest. There was no scenic value
to this island. The tour guide could be more interactive, give information on the islands we visited. The islands we visited were not service friendly. You could not purchase food or beverages without opening an account at the front desk and you had to pay at the front desk waiting behind people checking in and out. We did not have time to do this and were late getting back to the boat.

The best resort in my memory

this is our honeymoon in thulhagiri island resort & spa maldives. we stayed in the water villa and it is real above the beautiful sea. the location of this island is very wonderful. we took jetty from male airport only 25 mins. so it means you can have much more time searching in the island.about their rooms: behind the room, there is a stairs linking to the sea. just jump into water, we can see a lot of coral reef and fish. our villa is the east side, so we can see the beautiful sunrise in our room, in front of our bed. in the afternoon, we went to west side to stay on the beach, and there is totally white sand. we waited sunset and enjoy the beach bar. there are many birds, creatures in the island. if you put your heart to feel and look for, you can see lots of amazing spots.
we love here. although it is smallest island (diameter about 200m), it is not so crowded. they are so friendly and kind.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The water villa includes breakfast and dinner. We though it is already enough for one day. But for us, we though their food too salty.

Wonderful Resort with reasonable price
Close to Airport ( 20 mins speedboat) and Good service in Diving School.

We stayed 5 nights in the Water Villa which is comfortable, tidy and silent. We joined the house reef 2 times and joined the boat dive 2 times also from their Diving School. Thanks to the staffs they provided us with their excellent service and guide us to explore the culture under the water ! That gave us an unforgetable journey in Maldives. Also, the buffet dinner were too salty for our taste.

the island is really small but it gives you the feeling of being in a paradise. probably too crowdy in the high season. the restaurant has tables allocated with room number so you have to be lucky. there is just a small area facing the sea. moreover the staff is quite rude. house reef is good and there are other activities to do.
great for a couple of day stay.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Water villas worth the extra charge. Not all the bungalows face the beach, best choice is from n 120 to 150
