I had a very good stay at Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel. The overall impression is that the service and atmosphere of the hotel is top notch.

good location, nice staff (but weak language skills) willing to be paid with credit card
unimpressive cuisine, run down feeling, very few guests
Sedona is the best that Mandalay has to offer and is right next to the Palace wall--you can walk to the Palace. They try hard, but you can feel that they don't have much business and the staff is not very well trained. Almost no one speaks fluent English, and the problem is that they are so eager to please that they pretend to understand even though they don't. Don't be surprized if you order pancakes and get eggs instead! On the plus side, the staff really want to please you, there is a nice pool and the rooms are adequate if not elegant.
Restaurant Tip : If you eat at the hotel, don't be tempted by the Western cuisine--they don't understand it and it is pretty awful. The Asian cuisine is fine and very inexpensive.

The staff at the Sedona Mandalay was amazing. They were always very cheerful, helpful and accommodating. The rooms were clean and spacious, and quiet. The food was great every meal (I stayed for a total of 10 days)
They had no smoking restrictions, and I was forced out of most of the public areas due to the high level of cigarette smoke (I am very allergic to smoke)
I stayed at the Sedona in Rangon and Mandalay Myranmar. Both hotels were beautiful, clean, spacious and nicely decorated. The staff at the Mandalay was definitely more accommodating and made my stay a pleasure. The food at both hotels was very good, and the variety a pleasant surprise. I would definitely choose to stay in the Sedona Mandalay again when I return. The MAIN drawback was the cigarette smoke. I would definitely recommend they designate smoking areas outside the main lobby, dining room and halls. The smoke even permeated into my bedroom at times and made it difficult for me to breath. They were sympathetic but did not change anything.
Travel tip : stay away from the blue truck taxis, it's worth an extra $1 or two to be comfortable in a car
