Not worth for the money
The hotel is 10 min walk to one of the metro station
3.7
I wasn't totally satisfied with the hotel at all. The facilities are not great for the value (it's not cheap). The staff are not good in conversing even in simple English. They didn't tell me about the fact the toothbrush and toothpaste weren't free. When I checked out and be informed of the charge (I paid almost US30 for that), I asked them why the charge and the male manager became very defensive and gave me this it's-like-this-in-all-hotels-in-Korea talk. I think since they're in the hotel business, they should be sensitive about cultural difference and taught good manners and have the courtesy to tell customers. I have never stayed in any hotels in any countries which will charge people for something that's not put in a mini-bar.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The Namshan tower was a magnificent sight and a must-see in Seoul. The view isn't as magnificent as that in many other cities, because the city is pretty flat, but the restaurant serves simple traditional Korean dishes with reasonable prices. It's also situated in a nice hill and my mother and I enjoyed taking a walk outside the tower and the short cable car ride.

Overpriced and Musty Carpeted Room
4
Since Yangon faces a situation of supply exceeding demand, we were reconciled to exorbitant hotel tariffs as something unavoidable and booked 2 nights stay through. On checking in we were asked to either pay a security deposit or provide a credit card. This was despite the fact that we had prepaid our entire 2 night's stay through Agoda. I readily provided my credit card but they would not accept it as the credit card did not have it's numbers in raised embossed print! The matter was resolved when I asked them to "lock my account to any billing" and that I would pay for every service used in cash which incidentally was only in USD as every item on the menus and services was qouted in US Dollars alone. As we entered our "Lake Facing Deluxe Room" for which we paid extra, we were hit by a strong musty smell that emanated from the old floor carpet and room woodwork that had been neglected for long. We requested a room change as the room was not on a non-smoking floor and had twin beds instead of a double bed which would have been the natural first choice. The room was changed after consultation with a "senior" who as in a meeting after 20 minutes. The changed room too had the same musty smell but thankfully it was on a non-smoking floor and had a double bed.
While the buffet breakfast was fairly comprehensive, it lacked a cohesive theme and almost every item we tried during our 2 day's stay was insipid.
The overall atmosphere we experienced was one of a hotel that badly needed an overhaul but then why should it be when business is so good! This was demonstrated to us when the hotel could not extend our stay even 2 hours after the official check-out time. The answer was (after consulting a senior) that "other guests were in queue for the room".
Thank you very much Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake for money badly spent! We hope not to return unless there wasn't any other room available in Yangon.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Hire a local taxi by the hour at only 6000 to 8000 kyats or about 65,000 kyats for the day. It is the cheapest and the best way to travel around the sights and sounds of the city without stress and discomfort. One would not miss the pagodas of the city as they are omnipresent but one could very well miss the Shopping Malls assuming that Myanmar was a closed economy. Eyes would pop out at all the international brands jostling for attention in a country that was supposed to be behind the bamboo curtain. A great eye-opener that should not be missed! Keep plenty of small denomination US Dollars as they are the only way one could enter the various pagodas, museums etc. If you don't have small denomination USD you will most likely end up getting local currency returned as change at an exchange rate that will make you squirm.

Lovely hotel with super spacious room
A charming decor and wonderful service
8.3
I have only stayed a night in this hotel and I already felt the charm of it. It's not far from the city. The hotel staff were accommodating and friendly. When I had to check out very early in the morning to catch a 7am flight, they prepared a nice little breakfast box with a hot cup of coffee for me. I didn't have time to enjoy the view in the room, which is a shame. The only drawback in the room are the pillows. They are too high for the neck.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
There is a nice restaurant in the British government house building in town which is next to the British Council office. My friend took me there for lunch. It's a nice colonial building with very high ceiling, good food and a small art gallery. There's even an old manual lift with a folded gate. We had a fun ride from ground to third floor. Worth a visit even just for the decor.

Getting better all the time - wifi still need work
Location, food, views, pool
7.7
this was my second stay at chatrium in 4 months.
they have made the breakfasts much better and it will soon improve with the arrival of a real italian expresso machine. overall the food is very good and still getting better.
a very good business hotel.
but they can improve two items: wifi works stop and go and it is a real hassle logging in every twenty minutes after the connection drops. wifi works fine on the ground floor where management sits but on the 8th floor where my room was it was very spotty.
executive floor check in and check out is slow and inaccurate. the people on the main floor check in desk are great but those upsatirs need more training.
the recent increases in price at chatrium no longer make it great value for money.
