Try to negotiate before you book

Location, cleanliness, view from roof
6.7
May Shan was adequate but not worth $49 US a night, which is what I paid on agoda booking one day in advance during low season for a room without a window. The posted rate at the desk was $45 and I have been able to negotiate by being friendly in Bagan so I probably could have negotiated there but I moved to a really cheap guesthouse down the street with other travelers I met for my second night in town. The WiFi is only in the lobby but it is pretty fast and reliable. They also have two desktop computers. During the power outages the hotel turned their generator on right away. The room was very clean and they provided towels, soap, and travel toothbrush kit. Also a large bottle of water. The elevator worked well to service all 7 floors. One of the best features of this hotel is the view of Sule Pagoda from the 8th floor roof. They are doing everything right except the price. I'd say $25 is more appropriate.

The location of the hotel was great.

Location and staff.
7.7
The staff was very friendly and helpful. A few in the staff speak very good English and it was easy to get information from them about what to do in Yangon (which isn't that much). The hotel room was well cleaned everyday. The hotel is quite old, but met my requirements. Everything is very basic.

Nice Stay with Friendly Local Family Guesthouse

Local touch, Comfortable Bed and Location
6.3
At first I think the hotel is a bit overpriced as the room is too small and I can find bigger room with the same price at other hotel. But after I have a chance talking to the owners who are a local Chinese-origin Myanmar family, I felt good that I did help some local business. Actually, though the room is quite small and it seems like all furniture is cramped in the room, the bed is very comfortable, air-conditioning worked well and there is cable tv, hot shower etc. The hotel is also situated on the right location, nearby / almost next to Sule Paya. From there you can walk only 5min to a Top view bar at Sakura Tower to see Yangon by night. 10-15 minute walk to Ruby minimart and St. Mary Cathedral. The opposite shops include JJ donuts and Parisian Coffee Shop. At night, there are lines of street food stalls in front of & opposite the hotel.

relatively low price, friendly staff, great location

room prices in Yangon are extremely high, this hotel was a bit dirty and the room was wet and moldy with no windows but other than that it served its purpose

Just OK

Location, Price, Friendly staff
5.7
I think it is old hotel but it is in city good location near Sule pagoda. It is good choice because cheap price compare with other hotel in Myanmar. Breakfast has just toast and egg. The staff are friendly and helpful. However,I hope to stay in hotel which has better condition in Myanmar in this price.

Staff are polite and friendly but the guest house was very basic and generally unhygienic.
