Lovely, but overpriced and getting tired

Historic, good location, nice surrounds

I've stayed at this hotel for years, and in line with other Yangon hotels, it's now way overpriced because of the room shortage. Overall, the hotel is getting shabby and tired, nowhere near as nice as it was in recent years. The food has also gone downhill as has the breakfast. It seems as the crowds have now arrived, the standards have dropped. The pool is nice and it's overall still a nice place to stay .

Friendly staff lovely rooms

Lovely staff, clean rooms nice pool area

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Savoy, all of the staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area was lovely. No problem getting a taxi from the hotel into town. The breakfast was good. The only problem we had was crossing the road outside hotel, traffic stops for no one.

Enjoyable stay

Very friendly and helpful staff, nice decoration, wonderful pool

It was an enjoyable stay. We were given the rooms we requested, which were pool view and high floor. Although we later found out high floor was not a wise choice as there was no lift in the hotel. But the staff helped with the luggage and there was no problem. The girl at the reception when we checked in spoke perfect English and was very pleasant. Other staff at the reception were also pleasant and very helpful with our questions. We requested a late check out since our departure flight left very late at night and was dealt with without fuss and efficiently. We were given a 4pm check out time but was told we were free to hang around till late if we wish to. I would definitely recommend this hotel in Yangon. One minor thing is their hot water system may need an update since the temperature is not stable during shower.

Good but not great

Myanmar in general was not great value for money on hotels. The Savoy let us down in two ways - Firstly, they contested the voucher which had been mistakenly booked for single occupancy. Luckly the great folks at Agoda sorted it out, but the original way the savoy handled the situation was not right. I don't think orange squash (or cordial or orange flavoured drink) is a suitable breakfast "juice" for this level hotel - if there aren't oranges in seasons, replace with mango or something easily available locally. Money change was also a mess - they quoted one rate, then lowered it a bit, etc... English level was a bit poor too - came across in a number of situations that just made it a bit difficult/annoying.

Excellent hotel with colonial SE Asia feel

Swimming pool, room size, helpful staff

Very comfortable hotel, not a real bargain, but nothing in Myanmar is cheap for tourists as they have not yet built up to meet the demand. Walkable to the Shwedagon Pagoda, unless you're there in the heat season of April and May. Great pool and staff was able to pack a continental breakfast to accommodate our early departure.

Beautiful haven near city centre. Loved the upstairs terrace view looking onto the wonderful Shwedagon paya pagoda and its gleaming golden stupa !

Affordbale comfort & picturesque colonial style

The swimming pool is beautiful and a great place to take refuge from the heat. Beautiful antiques and art. View of the Shwedagon pagoda from the breakfast room

I travelled in a group of 3 girls. The triple room we had was spacious and beautifully presented with fresh flowers, robes, plenty of towels and complimentary water. The staff was attentive and kind. Always greeting us with a genuine smile and even gave us complimentary water pistols for the Thingyan Festival which was taking place in the city. I would recommend this hotel to couples, families with older children, groups, older travellers, business travellers. I would definitely consider staying at the Savoy on my next trip to Yangon.

The savoy is an ideal retreat from which to explore Yangon. Small, comfortable, boutique hotel with a touch of colonial elegance.
