Little bit of luxury and a whole lot of history!

The Strand is pricey, but its excellent location, large rooms and delicious but reasonable room service make the price tag a little less painful. A big fan of historical properties, I couldn't go to Yangon and miss the place where Orwell and Kipling overnighted! Each room is assigned a butler who is always a phone call away. Mine was particularly helpful, and helped with transformers, extra water and room service on a moment's notice. The spa is a regular hotel room on the second floor (no steam or whirlpool); the fellow who provided my massage was trained in Thailand and outstanding. The breakfast was weak (a la carte) but the coffee was excellent -- restaurant service was not great so I think room service is the way to go. The hotel houses an excellent art gallery, representing Myanmar's leading artists. All in all, an excellent property with some minor hiccups (inconsistent service and a little struggling with language) that I've come to expect in developing Asia!

Great experience with Butler

All staff are very friendly and they are offering the best hotel experience to the travellers. In one night, the water supply was a bit slow for a short time, and we didn't complain at all for that, and the other day the butler offered a bottle of sparkling wine as compensation! Of course the sparkling wine may not worth a lot, but every little gesture combines a great hotel experience!

A real delight - and superb bakery for breakfast

Arriving after a flight we were collected by the hotels car, whilst that transfer was very expensive ($50 vs ~$10 for a normal taxi) and probably not worth it the rest of the stay was a delight. All the staff were hugely attentive, including your butler. Our room was clean, cool and very relaxing. For some reason we were also given a complimentary bottle of (French) wine on arrival (we chose to drink it in the evening) and it was delivered cool in an ice bucket to finish the evening. Best part was a home-made Danish for breakfast, along with the equivalent of a full English breakfast plus some delicious local cuisine (fish soup). Also enjoyed the cocktail bar in the evening
In summary – a very pleasant hotel and clearly top quality, but of course very pricey.

The Strand was not my first choice, but I am so glad we stayed there. The customer service was just amazing from all the staff. We had a huge room that was extremely comfortable. The food in their restaraunts was all very good. They have a very nice bar wilth a great Happy Hour on Fridays. The Strand is a throwback to what great hotels jused to be like, only they still have it going. One of my top 5 hotel stays I have ever had.
