I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The free breakfast was surprisingly good especially their mango juice. I highly appreciate the kindness of their staff and their friendliness to us.

The hotel had decent rooms..but heater wasn't working when we were there..the manager tried promoting the services that the hotel can provide even when we told him that we had our plans alrdy..so we had to forgo our plan to visit swayabuthnam stupa as it was getting dark..

-great balcony attached to room provided good views-can see the monkey temple in the distance
-room had a nice separate seating/lounge area
-bucket provided in shower handy for hand washing clothes and to use to flush broken toilet!
-Located back from main touristy Thamel area, but still close enough to walk to, can walk to Monkey Temple and easy to walk or get a taxi if needed to other sites in Kathmandu
Cons
-staff even though helpful giving us maps a little pushy with tours/booking trek advice etc.avoid at all costs!!
-lobby very dark
-a lot of stairs to climb
-seating area out the front ok but free breakfast offered adequate to poor quality
-wifi unreliable in room better in lobby area
-room very dirty, floors and linen filthy, toilet did not flush,beds very hard with very flat pillows-rough night sleep and would be very cold room heading towards winter
-go for a cheap room on a lower level avoid climbing stairs and get the view upstairs from the roof for free!!(don't arrive too late or the view will be gone due to smoke and haze as Winter arrives)
Travel tip:
unless you only need a night and can put up with some discomfort.Only features of this hotel are the views but you need to be in Kathmandu at the right time of year to appreciate them.

we booked 16 days at this hotel and dont have a regret. the owner and all the staff were very helpful and friendly with us. so just relax and enjoy it. the hotel tour guide (narayan thapa) arranged all the tours and treks at a affordable price. we saw some amazing places. after our tour immediately the staff came quickly to help us get resettled and cleaned our room. they help with laundry services, sewing, finding restaurants or having coffee and pastrys there at the hotel. we are very satisfied with spending our vacation at the grand millennium guest house. try there dal bhat its good.

From outside I wasn't sure about this place, but once you're upstairs it feels like home. Theres a nice communal space with comfy sofa's, free breakfast (the simple basic of toast and jam but still very welcome)and free tea and coffee at any time. You have the use of the kitchen and there's several communal showers and bathrooms. Although I had a single room which felt a bit like a box with no window, the walls were painted nice colours and the sheets were colourful, which made it feel really cosy. Couldn't have stayed many days with no window but for a couple of days it was fine. The staff were super friendly as were all the guests, I was staying with my two year old son and he had no end of people to play with so I could zone out and catch up on my emails with the free Wifi. The staff were also super helpful with everything, and were there 24 hours, even giving me a wake up call to go catch my plane. Good location in China town too, very close to the metro and just round the corner to china town, with all its madness, shopping and cheap eats. Great place, totally recommended.

I'm not sure what hotel they are describing in the description as there is no sauna, massage, jacuzzi, etc! This hotel is a no frills backpacker hotel. You truly get what you pay for here. $11 a night gets you a hard bed and a semi-clean room. The staff here however are fantastic and immediately address any issue that you have including no hot water and no fan, etc. These items were fixed instantly and they are very kind. The breakfast is simple but enough and things such as the airport pickup and location make it a good place to stay if you are on a budget as Nepal is in no way a cheap backpacker destination. If you come with a backpacker mindset this place is perfect.

Miserable poky little hovel, entrance sentried by numerous young Nepalis looking shifty like they can't wait to take your money but are slightly worried that you'll cotton on. Disingenuous little scamps. Everytime I walked back in, met with the sickly namaste grin and the how are you sir? Room was dark and miserable, so moved to deluxe at 350R extra. WiFi signal to weak to connect to. I need WiFi on my first night in Kathmandu just to ease myself into the madness. Of course, little scamp promised it would work.
When I left following day, scamp desperate to keep me with all sorts of false promises. Had booed for 3 nights but no refund given although extra 350R waived.

It is a basic guest house with same flaws. The internet WIFI did not work while we where staying at the guesthouse. There was no hot water to shover in. Cockroaches in the room came out at night and there was a distinct mouldy smell. The owner and staff was welcoming and helpful, upon arrival we where served a complimentary cup of tea. With the flaws counted in i, think the room was overpriced. There was not so much noice from the street to the room and the guest house is in a good location.
