it was great start of the entire trip

centrally located, convenient, yet it can be quiet and relaxing, well established hotel
8.3
it was only one night stop in Kathmandu but I am glad I chose this place. I highly recommend this place: - can be very sociable with other travellers - centrally located - yet it can still be very quiet and calm once you step in to the court yard, which I loved - you can walk to anywhere

Great comfortable clean hotel in new wing

Cost, comfort and friendly staff

The Kathmandu Guest House was a great place to stay. The rooms were very clean, modern and comfortable and the gardens were nice and quiet. Really had no complaints at all except that the Wi-Fi was super slow almost to the point of not being usable and that there is no wifi access in guest rooms unless you were willing to pay for it. If Wi-Fi was fast and free, would've rated this 10/10.

Reputation way bigger than what they deserve

At the very center of the happenings

Stayed for 3 nights, airport pickup was good, got the luxury room, 24 hrs electricity, balcony, safe, TV, hot water, room heating but internet was not free, in fact it is extremely expensive , there is free internet but it is useless, breakfast was average, unapproachable staff and although it is named guest house, still you do not find the guest house warmth, i have paid 100$ for my room, i could have got way better deal somewhere else, this was expensive due to its reputation I guess, not bad stay but not impressive either.

Very enjoyable. Room was not in the new building and was plain but large and clean. Staff helpful. Buffet breakfast was very good.

An oasis in the middle of Thamel

Extremely friendly and helpful staff; very quiet although the hotel is in the vicinity of many clubs and bars playing loud music.

i spent my last night in nepal at the katmandu guest house and had a good night's rest in this unexpected splendid oasis in the middle of thamel's din. the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. initially i was to be in an old small room on the first floor with a tiny view of the garden - i had just arrived from pokhara and was told early in the morning at 9.00am that my room would be ready within an hour. however, when i checked with the receptionist close to noon, the room had still not been done. i was frustrated with this since i was booked on a tour to bhaktapur and we were leaving shortly, and had hoped to check in and clean up before leaving for the bhaktapur tour. i made a complaint and was unexpectedly upgraded to a deluxe room facing the garden. this was indeed much appreciated. i'm making another trip to nepal next year and intend to spend more time at kgh, and would recommend friends to stay there as well. the guest house and its surroundings are extremely clean and the garden is a welcome change from the dust in the streets. it's indeed a five-star guest house.

Service has improved out of sight;Awesome new wing

Deluxe rooms are Beautiful, location can't be beaten, well established brand

i stayed in a deluxe room here and had a lovely stay. the showers are awesome, service is great. the kathmandu guest house is an institution, and it would be easy for management and staff alike to become complacent; a few years back i felt they may have. on this stay however i was delighted at the friendliness of the staff which made for a comfortable stay. i was however disappointed with the travel agent/trekking agent situated near the atm. they charged me ridiculous prices for flights and visa services. i'll never do business with them again. they may not even be affiliated with kgh (i hope not). all in all a great 3 days with this mainstay guest house.
Hotel Feature Tip: Don't do business with the trekking agency situation off the driveway near the ATM. They are rip-off merchants cashing in on their location. Go elsewhere, you're spoilt for choice in Thamel.

A great very versatile hotel/guest house

Right in the center of the tourist area yet can find peace and quiet.
9.3
Always remember you get what you pay for. This guest house has a huge selection of room types to choose from. If you want cheap, you can have a single no bathroom room that is very cheap. If you want an expensive luxury deluxe room you it is also available. I stayed in 3 different types of rooms and the more expensive was worth it. As in most areas in Nepal there are power outages and the luxury rooms have a backup power supply that never cut out for very long. The restaurant serves excellent food and there is a tour operator there as well as many shops to purchase gifts for back home. And it is right in the center of Tamel which is the touristy area of Kathmandu. Yet it is set back off the road so you can get some peace and quiet away from the hectic hustle and bustle of the streets. I will stay there when I return to Kathmandu. They treated me very fair and with kindness.

Great Location and Service

The Guest House is location only a few metres from 2 small supermarkets and a bakery and the service is great

The rooms are a litte small and tired but plenty big enough for 1 traveller. Make sure you ask for a room away from the disco and remember that December is "wedding season" so there will be some noise from wedding receptions. Internet is only available in the reception and dining areas.
