The worst hotel of my vacation

We chose this hotel because of the review on this page and it turned out not to be true at all. The rooms were tiny, the beds were too hard and WAY to small, the balcony was practically non-existing and not possible to use. The room was dark and the fan (when it worked) was so loud that it was impossible to sleep. The location is bad and right next to a bar with loud techno music all night. The breakfast was included but not worth eating and we had to go somewhere else to get full. We have stayed problably 20 different places all over Nepal and are not picky at all but this was the first time we changed hotel even though we had payed for 4 nights and didn't get at refund. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

nice little hotel in the busy thamel. good location, it's quite at night but close enough to all the bars and restaurants. the guy in the reception (cannot remeber his name) is really friendly and helful. they can help you with booking of buses etc. highly recommended

Home away from home with pleasant atmosphere
Big rooms with attached bathrooms, hot showers, in Thamel but not right in the middle of it, really friendly & helpful staff, very safe and comfortable, newly renovated inside.

I have stayed at Kathmandu Tourist Home quite a few times and also for long periods of time and I find I am never disappointed. The priority for me in a hotel is friendly welcoming staff and that I feel safe as I am a solo traveller... this Hotel FAR exceeds my expectations every time. The Hotel has recently been freshly painted inside with bright colours and it has really given it the facelift it needed. I think the rooms are very good value as they are big and airy with good sized attached bathrooms (although the rooms on the road side can be a bit noisy from the passing traffic but they do have balconies). The Hotel is centrally located in Thamel but not in the middle of all the action which I prefer. There is a kitchen that serves all types of food and it has never been a problem to order food early in the morning or later in the evening.... the coffee is pretty good too. There's a nice courtyard at the back and information on tours, trekking and travel in Nepal. This Hotel is not just a Hotel but as the name suggests, a Home for Tourists. I highly recommend it to all travellers.
