Quiet, convenient guest house in Thamel

When I arrived at the Tibet Guest House with a Nepali friend, I was upgraded to a deluxe room. The room was old and a little shabby, but large and comfortable, with a living area separated from the bedroom by a drape. The bathroom was large with a tub/shower and good hot water. Buffedt breakfast was varied and tasty; omelets and other egg dishes were made to order. I had one good Nepali-style dinner in the restaurant as well as one mediocre western meal - tasteless chicken with a pasty sauce. There is a charming garden outside the restaurant, and meals can be taken there. The back wall of the garden has a wonderful Tibetan Buddhist style relief mural. Just outside the main gate is the hustle and bustle of Thamel, but one would never know it once inside.

the electricity was able to use also at the time of a power failure. (but elevator does not move.)
the hot shower was able to be used satisfactorily. nice staff. quiet and convenient location. breakfast was delicious.
it will be recommended if you want to stay middle-class hotel.

I have been recommending this guest house for 14 years, the location is excellent, within walking distance from Durbar Square, the Garden of Dreams, the Tibet Book Shop and in the centre of the shopping area. It is an area suitable for visitors as the locals here are geared for holidaymakers. The internet has left with some traders with high expectations and the prices of many items have risen to European levels, unexpected and often unrealistic. The Guest House has comfortable rooms that would benefit from a deep clean and refurbishment but the facilities are good. Free WIFI and use of one of three computers is excellent, as is the Illy coffee and mint tea from the coffee bar. The food is good, especially the salads and Thupka (Tibetan soup). The staff in the restaurant are so good, remembering the clients 'likes' or 'dislikes', being attentive but not intrusive... I can not speak highly enough of this team! The shower was great... piping hot at all times (possibly a resut of solar panels on the roof) - only one minor criticism... grey towels smelled of ammonia was not so nice. It was fantastic to be met at the airport by staff at the guest house and to be delivered back again after a two week stay.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Durbar Square - you can extend your ticket by visiting the tourist office where staff is happy to stamp and date your ticket free of charge. The museum in the old palace is great and it is nice to re-visit (time allowing).
Rainbow Jeans on the route from Durbar Square to The Tibet Guest House - this gentleman offers a good service, we bought two pairs of jeans and two jackets, all sewn/created within 7 days at an excellent price!

WiFi not available in the room. Room damp in winter. Plenty of hot water available for shower. Expensive meals in the restaurant. Gaia restaurant is the best choice in town for value and quality food.
Restaurant Tip:
Check out Gaia restaurant. We have eaten there every day for the 10 days stay in Kathmandu.
