Excellent hotel, just (almost) finished redecorati
Rooms were huge, location is excellent and the price was unbeatable

The hotel was either just finishing redecorating or just opened, even so there was no issue with noise or anything. My room was an excellent size with a balcony (no real view, but nice to be able to watch the street). I got a major discount (I guess because of the on-going work) but by now they'll have the final touches done and it'll be an excellent hotel.

under serious construction
wish there was something i could write in this space

horrible. upon arrival, saw that hotel is under re-construction in a serious way. although i was offered to be placed in a sister hotel, i decided to see the room first but agreed that the noise of the jackhammers was just unbearable. the sister hotel, unfortunately, was also under construction and not nearly as conveniently located as the Grand Central, offering a tiny room with a view of an air shaft and a restaurant which is a rooftop offering nothing but a dusty table with chairs and a makeshift kitchen with very limited offerings.
i understand the need for renovation; however, as guest would have expected the hotel to advise me ahead of time to enable me to make alternate arrangements instead of waiting for me to show up so they could place me in a hotel "within the family" however unsuitable

great location on the walking street (fields ave).

this was a great choice. i chose it mainly because it has balcony rooms overlooking fields avenue. but, you need to book early if you want one of these.
there's no lift, so you'll have to carry your bags up stairs that can be a bit narrow. it can be noisy as fields is the center of the party in that area of angeles city. also, i'd suggest somewhere else if you're bringing your children, as the area is more ... adult oriented.
my only real complaint was that the shower didn't provide enough hot water. but otherwise, the staff was all very friendly and helped with everything i asked (and the girls were super cute), the "restaurant" is really just a cafe, but the coffee is good and the beer is cold, and it's a nice place to sit and watch the crowds at night.
i will definitely stay here on my next trip through angeles. the bed was very comfortable, and large and i actually liked the room better than i did my more upscale room in manila.
one note, as of early march, they are still doing renovations, so expect construction noise during the day, and as with anywhere in the philippines, be sure to lock your stuff up in the safe and only take what you need with you to avoid issues with pick pockets and such. use common sense and you'll have a great time.
Nightlife Tip:
There's a nice place called the Viking right across the street, the hotel hostesses are super cute, and you can get a very cheap massage (500P for 1 hour, but it's a regular swedish massage, not a more ... full serviced one, but still quite good and relaxing).
