Peaceful, quiet, up-market golf resort.
Quiet pleasant surrounds, close to Taal Volcano & Tagaytay
7.7
Canyon Woods is a "residential resort" which means it's huge and most of it is privately owned homes. I stayed in "The Lodge" with some filipino friends which is at the far end of the resort. You ARE going to need your own transport here, not only to get around the resort but also to get ANYWHERE else. There is NO room service, the clubhouse has nice (though expensive) food though my friends preferred simpler (and cheaper) local places. Was disappointed at the lack of housekeeping services as well given the price. The facilities themselves are quite nice, but the service was lacking. This is a place where you need to be a but self-sufficient.

Found indoor pool for my 2-yr old during monsoons.
Indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi, large and comfy lodge hotel rooms, great view of Taal Volcano, Nice houses
7.3
i chose this resort for the only indoor pool in the entire batangas area shielded from monsoon winds and rains.
cons:
no welcome drinks, snobbish gay guy from reception desk who never smiled.
facilities: everything is old and poorly maintained. oldest elevator i've ever seen, bowling not operational, kiddie outdoor pool no water and dirty, outdoor pool dirty. kiddie indoor playroom slide has no ladder. rides are manually operated and there are no attendants on standby you have to call them upstairs. indoor pool cannot be used the next day due to maintenance.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Do not book on weekday work week:
We booked on a Tuesday and when the night time came, we were the only guests booked on the hotel dined and lodged alone. This is normally great so you can have the hotel by yourself. But the resort is old and vast, at night there arent a lot to do. Bowling is not working. It was actually a scary experience. If you've watched one of those hotel/cabin-alone in the middle of nowhere movies, you'd know what I mean. So many houses, trees, and not a single human. It was a literal ghost town. And the Lodge hotel was several miles deep into the village. scary!

Might have been nice 10 years ago
4.7
The area is big and ok if you have a car, but otherwise you will end up needing to use their shuttle service and waiting to get around. There are lot of activities that they advertise as options, but everything is shabby and has not been maintained properly. The food was strange, a few european/american dishes in the menu, mainly local cuisine and the waiters were not able to explain to me what the dishes consisted of, so every time I wanted to eat, it was a real gamble... and I did not win often.

Beautiful location but not service oriented
Location, beauty of scenery and surroundings
5.7
we have mixed feelings about our stay at the canyon woods.
it is certainly not for those looking for a hotel type accommodation with all-around service and that feeling of "being taken care of" or pampered. not service oriented nor particularly friendly, (we were told there were no baby cots and that an extra bed was 800 pesos more -not that a baby can sleep in a bed anyway!) so we ended up putting one of our mattresses on the floor. check-in took a very, very long time and we got no smile or welcome drinks or any particular regard.
you need to pay for basically everything (use of kids playroom, all other games and sports except the pool) which is a bit awkward.
the place, however, is located in a beautiful canyon, the weather was cool and felt healthy and fresh, and the views from some of the resort's spots (specially close to the golf area) are simply breathtaking. houses beautifully blend in the natural landscape and it was a pleasure to look at them.
it did feel lonely though, and was not quite what we expected or wanted. when we visited, only one of the restaurants was open (the pavillon) which has bad food and is overpriced (manila prices for a very, very low quality of food and cooking), but we were unfortunately stuck with it for three days. breakfast was frankly bad and an additional 350 pesos per person, extremely poor in choices and again, not good quality.
the rooms at the lodge were ok, spacious and bright, but fixtures were old and some were defective, and mostly low quality finishing. bed was comfortable.
golf course was nice, though, and well maintained, though caddies quite weak in their knowledge of the terrain.
i don't think we will be back unless it is strictly for playing golf.

the place is nice, very clean and lots of things to do. casitas is good with a large bed, sofa, dining area and kitchen. we enjoy our stay and definitely will visit again.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Make sure to bring everything before going to the resort because its a bit far from the commercial area

Lovely commune with nature
like enjoying 5-star amenities in the middle of a forest reserve
9.3
My Canyon Woods stay is one of the most relaxing weekends i've ever had. The travel from Manila is not as toxic as when one will go elsewhere and the rewards of being in a very relaxing atmosphere is just beyond words.
I would recommend this place to anyone needing time off the crazy daily grind of Metro Manila.
Travel tip:
The casitas are well worth the money

Big rooms but not so great food
Big rooms with connecting rooms
7.3
Overall canyon woods is the place if you want to be away from the city and enjoy the relaxing ambiance of nature and fresh weather. We got 2 rooms since we are a family of 10 with young children, good thing is that rooms are connected with each other so we can eat, talk and watch tv together in one room and sleep using beds for each room. We played badminton although the rate says 2h per hour you have to pay addtl 1h for the lights. Food is not too great and a little bit costly. Golf is ok and they are very strict on the use of the swimming pool. You have to buy swimming caps for the girls. Room service is a little bit slow and an additional 30% charge is needed if you are going to eat inside your rooms. At any rate, we enjoyed our holiday because of the cool weather and the relaxing ambiance.
