Great ambience and great location
The garden area helps you forget you are in the middle of a city and the pool area is nice.

lots of children there during the school holidays which i would not have enjoyed had i been there alone but as we had 3 children staying with us to also have a "pool holiday" in the city i could hardly complain.
the free breakfast is adequate but not outstanding... but then again this is not 4 star level hotel.
although i had pre booked and paid for a superior room, at check in they explained that none were available as they were renovating some. they then tried to put us into a freshly painted (still paint fumes) smoking room - i protested and said i would not accept this - if they accepted my booking for superior they must provide superior or better and they then "found" a spare non smoking superior room.
they also did the same thing a few days later when we had family arrive and they tried to push my extended family (2 non smoking adults and 3 children)into a smoking room - once again when we stood firm they "found" a suitable non-smoking room. it is not that the staff are unhelpful but they seem to try the easiest option first of sticking customers where it suits them rather than catering to the best interests of the customers. we shouldn't have to be be firm and assertive in order to simply get the standard of room already agreed and paid for.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Just across the road from the nearby Gaisano Country Mall is a good massage shop at only 150 pesos per hour and the masages (non naughty) are quite reasonable

our stay was good. we had a problem at check in due to overbooking of rooms but the reception staff handled it well and were able to fix the problem and issue us the rooms we booked.The hotel has a huge garden area and fish ponds. The children were allowed to catch fish on small home made fishing rods which was a delight for them (they put the fish back in the pond after. The hotel itself is quite old but clean.
Restaurant Tip:
The Gustavian restaurant is a short drive away and they serve the best food in Cebu :)

great service,but this hotel has changed management not for the better & ownership sames the same continues that to get worse with each visit (5)- entitlement attitude towards their servants/employees.now,i recommend that you ask to see your assigned room prior to accepting it.they have been told to rent "older" rooms to those using agoda because of nice discounts.also,to save the very rich owners,the once excellent breakfast buffet- now just very average.one day "no cook" to make eggs/pancakes that any eight year old can make.

takes time for the hot water to come out when taking a shower, cable TV is terrible, most of the time out of service. No fridge/mini bar in the room. Twin beds are small.

this older hotel continues to go down hill with each visit(5)but employees worth every pesos.now,new management rents anything/everything to outside people - but they over look current room renters.management continues to treat great employees like dirt.ask to see room before accepting assigned room

As usual I enjoyed my stay at Montebello. Good online rates, great swimming pool, great staff, awesome location behind Country mall, as well as near sports, nightlife and other shopping. However, the internet connection through their Wi-Fi is very weak. Very frustrating. Also the selections at the restaurant are much fewer than before, and the prices much higher. But I still love their mango shakes
