Nice resort but needs maintenance

The actual stay is nice, relaxing and so quiet. You can just hear the crickets at night. The beach front lost its white sand.

Great service and Price value ratio
Service, Price-value, hillside location
7
Considering the price you pay for your overnight stay its a great choice. Lovely location about a 40 minutes boatride from Davao city. Each room has its own designated "butler" to help you out with anything you may need.
The friendliness of the service staff is definitely the strong side of Hof Gorei and makes up for some of the other shortcomings.
The location is a bit isolated and if you like to leave the property you need to take the boat first. Its a 10 minute ride to a small town, where we got our motorbikes to explore the island.
The property itself is on a hillside with its own beach.. although the beach is not really a place to swim. This is not Borocay or Phuket and i would never come just for a beach holiday.
My F&B experience was mixed and its hard to eat somewhere else. Out of the three meal i had, only one was OK. The other two were, lets say filling your stomach.
The biggest disappointment was the room. Although specious and with a great view over the channel and in the distance mount Apo, the bed itself was some wooden, bamboo construction, which was quite noisy.
The biggest problem however were the walls and for me a reason not to stay here again. I could here every noise from next door.
To close his off, I have to stay i did not expect much to begin with.. so you could say my expectation were met. I had to come to this island for a couple of days and for that reason the choice was all right. However I would not come back here, especially not as a couple. A solo traveler and younger/adventurous traveler would be completely happy here, i could imagine.

Beautiful resort setting
Beautiful flowers, trees etc. Nice pool setting. Very reasonably priced. Good service.
7.3
This was our second stay here. We went back because of the beautiful setting, reasonable rates, and great service. It was still beautiful there, but there needs to be a little more attention given to maintaining the beauty, many of the plants and trees etc were suffering damage (past drought??) Overall we still enjoyed our stay at Hof Gorei.
Travel tip:
take advantage of the stay 2 nights and 3rd night free. then stay couple days in davao city. eden park, jack ridge, philippine eagle center, peoples park as a short list of attractions we enjoy.

lovely hotel and well trained service
8.7
The stay in the hotel is very comfortable and relaxed with quite and excellent views of the sea and the mountain opposite. However, you have to book the suitable flight to be linked with the boat pick up by the hotel in the DAVAO airport. You could not book this hotel for the flight arrival late than 4:30 PM and you will miss the last bus to the hotel. Suitable for the couples.
Hotel Feature Tip:
The top building is fantastic with heartbreathing views. Fishing with boats is another choice for the daily activity, however, the beach is not suitable for swimming due to the rough sand.

Lovely resort but lack activities
Butler service for each cottage
7.3
My wife and I stayed at this resort with my brother and sister in law who were visiting from Canada. The resort itself is very nice, lovely view of MT. Apo from the chalet which is about 185 steps if not more. The resort has a nature type setting with birds, a boa constrictor snake, lizard and two hornbills. Beware of these birds as they can get pretty agressive. After dinner you pretty much retire back to your room. It would have been nice if at least there are some entertainment activities. The food was just okay nothing really special. Good value if you book through a third party like Agoda.
Travel tip:
Book through Agoda or other third party booking to get the best value for your money.

"Hidden Treasure"
The breathtaking view up the top of the Chalet
8
Had a relaxing 2 day stay at Hof Gorei with relatives. The hotel offers a butler service for each cottages. If you want something all you have to do is ring a bell (provided at each of the cottages) and your butler comes running. We booked a beach front bungalow thinking it will overlook the beach from our window but was disappointed to find out that it was overlooking a garden and some trees instead. One kind a wonder why the owner April named it beachfront since it is nowhere fronting the beach at all. It would have been more accurate to just call it Blue Bungalow (depending on the color scheme of room decor). The food was just okay nothing spectacular really. The room has the very basic amenities (a bar of soap and towels), no freebie shampoo, conditioner etc. You can request to eat anywhere in the resort, by the beach, up the Chalet, or in your room (which we had to resort to when it rained the second evening). The climb to the top of the Chalet is 200+steps. We requested to eat breakfast there based on the many reviews I read on how fantastic the view was. The climb was very tiring but well worth it as the view at the top was just exhilarating. We felt sorry though for our Butlers who had to carry the food all the way to the top. It was no wonder the tea was already lukewarm by the time we drank it. We did not have the heart to send the Butlers back for a replacement. I enjoyed interacting with the resort owner April. Really smart cookie with a good business head on her shoulder. During my stay I was eaten alive by bugs, sand flies, mosquitoes which kind dampened my holiday.
Travel tip:
Do not forget to bring a bug spray. If you are sensitive to insect bites like me you will thank me. My Butler Tha tang took the time to rub my legs and arms with Easy off lotion and at one point April as well when she saw my bites on my legs. What a great service indeed!

Our Haven
Service Oriented, Good Food and Great Secluded Getaway for Couples
7.7
We were a couple searching for a quiet secluded getaway. Hof Gorei was a pleasant surprise with their unique services. We were supplied with our private attendant. Everyone was very hospitable especially Marlon, our personal attendant. Ms. Jeanne April, the owner, was a very gracious hostess. The vast variety of tropical birds and animals were an additional pleasure especially feeding the hornbills. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The view is perfect! We would definitely return to Hof Gorei. We will strongly recommend this hideaway resort to our friends in Canada and Manila.
