The place added on extra expenses wherever possible. The extra bed for our seven-year-old daughter was $15 per night, but okay, we agreed to pay it prior to checking in. They advertised "WiFi in the lobby" on the website but don't tell you the cost, which is quite expensive (250 pesos/hr, about 10x the cost at local Internet cafes). One morning they told my husband there was a complimentary breakfast, which surprised him. He asked if they were sure about this, and after asking our room number, they said yes. Then they presented him with a bill for 800 pesos for two basic American breakfasts (egg, bacon, toast and coffee) with the explanation that they'd made a mistake (they should have owned up to this mistake or at least told him as soon as they realized it). No apology offered whatsoever. Unfortunately, he could not have realistically refused to pay this, because they make you pay a 1000 peso deposit for incidentals. My daughter accidentally broke a small water glass (the kind you find in the bathroom for brushing your teeth) - they charged us 100 pesos for this. And as we left, they tried to stick us with a "hotel service" taxi when we clearly asked for a metered taxi, then offered us a price we agreed to for their hotel taxi, after which the driver then refused to take us for that price. We are not argumentative or problematic folks, and rarely have problems with hotel staff - and we travel a lot. But by the time we left the Palm Plaza, we'd agreed we'd never be back. The hotels in Manila are comparatively expensive, and this one, while in a decent location very close to the Robinson's Department Store, could have offered much better service for the price. Our room was small and somewhat dark. The cafe is expensive and what we ate there was only moderately good food. Even things offered on their website weren't always available -- for example, they say they have free safe deposit boxes, but only the keys for the very small ones worked.

I had to extend my stay for a night and the rate initially quoted was not what was honored on check out. So for any additional transactions, get a confirmation (written maybe?), in case the person who one made the initial/original transaction is not available at check-out.
