I stayed in Palm Plaza Hotel for a night and it was my first time staying there in mid August 2008. The hotel is near the Manila International Airport and easily accessable due to the stragetic location. It only takes about 30 minutes to get to the airport from the hotel. The staff of the hotel is friendly and has a cozy setting. The hotelis only 10 stories high but it is full of close security circuit cameras. The room and bathroom are very clean, neat and tidy. The room is also quite spacious. On the other hand, upon entering the room, it has a unpleasant moist smell. The air-con took sometime to cool the room too. Besides that, the lift is also very slow. Overall, out of a score of 10, I would rate my stay at 6.5.

The hotel is situated stragetically in the city of Malate. It is nearby to restaurants and shopping complexs. The staff of the hotel is friendly. The rooms are clean and neat. Although it is by a busy road it is rather quiet at night.

The lift is slow as there is only one lift going up and down 10 stories. The room has some unpleasant moists smell.

  • Restaurant Tip : To look for authentic local cuisine, the best place to go is Robbinson's shopping complex across the road of the hotel.

For those looking for clean and basic place, Palm Plaza is a good place. Also being close to Robinson's department store makes the hotel a good place to stay for a short vacation.

Nice and comfortable room. Room service was dependable. Cleaning staff were friendly.

Front staff was a bit unfriendly. Not welcoming.

The hotel is quite reasonable for its price. However, the rooms are quite small and the carpet is moldy. The bed is lumpy and the beddings need more washing -- the linens are dirty white and some have stains. These discomforts are balanced by the fact that the hotel is very near to a large mall, night clubs and spas. It seems that everything is within your reach. You can get a taxi in a jiffy. Staff service is quite friendly and efficient.

Good location, near to a large mall and easy access to transportation

Shady characters are loitering outside the hotel specially at night time.

I would recommend this hotel to the budget conscious. If you're looking for the single nightlife scene and want to be close by, it is very convenient. There are many bars and KTVs around the area.

  • Restaurant Tip : Nearby the hotel on Mabini (I think) Street, there is a Japanese Restaurant, "Teriyaki Don", that specializes in yakiniku but just started grilling yakitori outside. The yakitori was excellent. Overall, the food served as this restaurant is pretty authentic. This review is from someone who has lived in Japan for 18 years.

The place added on extra expenses wherever possible. The extra bed for our seven-year-old daughter was $15 per night, but okay, we agreed to pay it prior to checking in. They advertised "WiFi in the lobby" on the website but don't tell you the cost, which is quite expensive (250 pesos/hr, about 10x the cost at local Internet cafes). One morning they told my husband there was a complimentary breakfast, which surprised him. He asked if they were sure about this, and after asking our room number, they said yes. Then they presented him with a bill for 800 pesos for two basic American breakfasts (egg, bacon, toast and coffee) with the explanation that they'd made a mistake (they should have owned up to this mistake or at least told him as soon as they realized it). No apology offered whatsoever. Unfortunately, he could not have realistically refused to pay this, because they make you pay a 1000 peso deposit for incidentals. My daughter accidentally broke a small water glass (the kind you find in the bathroom for brushing your teeth) - they charged us 100 pesos for this. And as we left, they tried to stick us with a "hotel service" taxi when we clearly asked for a metered taxi, then offered us a price we agreed to for their hotel taxi, after which the driver then refused to take us for that price. We are not argumentative or problematic folks, and rarely have problems with hotel staff - and we travel a lot. But by the time we left the Palm Plaza, we'd agreed we'd never be back. The hotels in Manila are comparatively expensive, and this one, while in a decent location very close to the Robinson's Department Store, could have offered much better service for the price. Our room was small and somewhat dark. The cafe is expensive and what we ate there was only moderately good food. Even things offered on their website weren't always available -- for example, they say they have free safe deposit boxes, but only the keys for the very small ones worked.

Be careful. Guest Rating: 3.3

I had to extend my stay for a night and the rate initially quoted was not what was honored on check out. So for any additional transactions, get a confirmation (written maybe?), in case the person who one made the initial/original transaction is not available at check-out.

I have been traveling to the Philippines for the last 20 years and Palm Plaza represents the best value for money I have experienced so far thus I intent to continue staying at this hotel. We were both very content with all aspects and we highly recommend the hotel.
