The hotel was centrally located in singapore, the room was clean and neat but needed to be updated. Central controls by the bed was nice when it worked. The elevators were quick and quiet. The concierge was helpful when we could find him.
The air conditioning did not work in the room despite several attempts to repair it. The hotel staff was generally not friendly, the restaurant staff was not friendly. The beds were the hardest i have ever slept on. The central control system controlled by the key card at the door would go out intermittently cutting off all of the electricity, tv, ac, etc. The closet was much too small and no space anywhere to stay an extended time. The concierge did not open the door or help with any packages or suitcases when going in and out shopping.
The hotel was nice once years ago, it needed to be updated a lot. The staff was all very stiff and generally unfriendly and unhelpful. If i had not prepaid for the room i would have moved, i had to buy a fan to cool the room myself and a plug strip because there was only one plug in the room.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The singapore zoo and night safari is not to be missed regardless of the lines or the cost, it is truly spectacular and exciting. The dining area at night safari is a thrill and the shops are cute and the attraction and animals are incredible.

Pretty clean and quiet and nice little pool and minigym and several restaurants and ok breakfast and good staff. Big room and 5 min to Bugis.
Same exact breakfast every day. Not even a bottle of water in rooms(I checked and this is their policy). Not bad but I think you can do better for this money esp in 2009 and 10.

Hotel Feature Tip : pool is small but nice and the Chinese vegetarian restaurant is fine.

It's location is pretty great. About a 8 minute walk to the MRT stations. Close to shopping centers. Food outlet (opens to late) and 7-Eleven next to the hotel makes it very convenient indeed! Concierge very helpful.
It's a little dated. Has been maintained well but wear and tear rearing their ugly heads. Air conditioning needs to be overhauled..maintains the cool but thats about as cold as it's gonna get.
My wife and I were on a 4 day stopover in Singapore from Canada to Malaysia. For the price that we booked at Agoda it was worth the value. It's rather difficult to get a hotel that is centrally located and with that much convenience for the price in Singapore. The concierge was very helpful from the day we checked in till the day we left. The hotel does need some sprucing and the air conditioning looked into. We would recommend this hotel for short stays.
Restaurant Tip : There is a Thai restaurant thats about 2 blocks left as you leave the hotel. They have a pretty good menu and the price is reasonable for a sit down atmosphere. Set lunches is what I would recommend. Try and avoid the lunch crowd. The food court/outlet next to the hotel has lots of varieties and rather tasty too.

Expensive for what was provided.
Found the hotel to be very overpriced for what is provided and it wasn't as central as anticipated. We'd agreed a late checkout and when we came back to pick up our bags to head for the airport, the hotel decided they were now charging us an additional fee of around 100$...not really acceptable for an extra hour!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : near the big wheel! Great for sightseeing Singapore

A bog standard hotel providing a room & bed, probably a bit pricey for what you get.
Travel tip : Long walk from cheap transport.

The response of one staff member was that we were an intrusion and a letter to the General Manager has so far been ignored. We have stayed in a range of hotels throughout Europe and Australia of varying quality. The Allson was by choice one of the most expensive but had a third world mattress. At no time were we contacted by management to see if our continual problem was rectified. It appeared that their complete focus was to maximise the money that we spent in the hotel. Chris and I rarely complain but in this case, I am appalled at the level of care for their guests. We are return customers to this hotel but will never return. My suggestion; avoid the Allson if you have difficulty with rock hard mattresses.
Shopping Tip : Orchid Road of course is fantastic and if you leave the hotel and turn left into Victoria Street the alley markets sell heaps of interesting things.
