Air condition is centralized and you must ask reception to change the temperature and fan speed. The lighting system is very difficult to use with pressing the wrong button (which are not identified) turn off all power in your room. To get the power back on, you must ring reception. The TV is local only with no CNN, BBC or movie channels. Internet requires hourly tickets, difficult to use and run by a separate company who must send someone to the hotel when there is a problem. Breakfast room is the street in front of the hotel. This is not a 3 star hotel, more like a 2 star.
Easy to get a taxi out front of the hotel - in Singapore nowadays this is very important
Centralized air conditioning; Separate company runs the difficult internet; Local TV only; No CNN/BBC/movie channels; difficult power control system in room; no breakfast room.
- Travel tip : Ease of getting a taxi

Bencoolen Hotel is great with the location. In Singapore, it is difficult to find something cheap near to the city central. This hotel does meet most needs with a budget rate but if you are not familiar with the local style of breaksfast, it will be not be suitable to you.
- Travel tip : You could purchase a prepaid SIM card at the Plaza Singapura Communication Shop for the cost of $15 with the proof of your passport. That way, you could use the cheapest way to contact your families and friends overseas or locally. The mobile cost is fairly cheap.
