If the owners would spend some money on remodeling this old building, this could be a charming boutique hotel. As it is, we fled as soon as possible to a comfortable bed in a nice 4* hotel we know well in Singapore, and there had a couple of pleasant, sleepful nights.
The bundled breakfast was only wonderful if you love an English breakfast: all was drenched in oil, potatoes, omelet, vegetables. We yearned for the lovely buffet at our favorite 4* hotel. I would rank the curent Burjaya Hotel as perhaps 2*.
- Restaurant Tip : Try the Blue Ginger Restaurant, one of the best Thai/Malaysian fusion restaurants in Singapore

Stay away if you want to have an easy stay! If you want to have something to talk about back home, go right ahead and dive into your adventure: it is guaranteed in this place.
Will definitely never return. There are plenty alternatives for better rates. The descriptions on the web are true regarding the facade and the lobby, very nice and yes, there is charm. But once you enter your room there is nothing left of it. Either try another budget place or spend a few pennies more and book a real hotel. If you book early even places like the INTERCONTI will be in a similar price range, but they are clearly worlds apart!
- Restaurant Tip : Great food at the Hawker Centers all over Singapore and close to this hotel, too. One of my favourites: food court in the AMARA shopping center (4th level, attached to the AMARA hotel), Korean BBQ - used to be one of my favorite lunch places when living and working in Singapore from '03-'05.

All in all this hotel provides good value for the money, especially for those who enjoy the Singapore night life and/or the shopping oportunities in Chinatown which is a short walk away. It is to be hoped that the owners will pay a little more attention to maintenance and replacement of worn out furnishings.
