Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.

- A few meters from Chinatown
- Clean hotel
- When visting Asia i was used to 5 star hotels, and even though the hotel is nice, it is certainly not 5 stars, as its furniture and air conditioner is quite old.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : This is one of the only good hotels which is located near/in Chinatown.

Friendy staff, clean rooms, tasty breakfast
We stayed here for 3 days. The location is good, 5-7 minutes from MRT station, near to finance center. Lots of restaurants, ATMs, and 7eleven across the road. Awkward furniture placement, hard to move across the room. Wifi is for 8 dollars per hour.

Good value for money. Nightlife is abuzz in front of the hotel, good evening crowd.
The location is a bit off a distance from the two nearest train stations.
I book this hotel without seeing the actual place for my parents and relatives because I was just too busy. Read a couple of short reviews before booking and just hoped that it was really good as the reviews say -- in actual, it was better than what I had expected! I work in an interior design firm specializing in hospitality projects so more or less I know what to look for and expect within the range of room rates. Great value for money if you're more interested in visiting the locality rather than enjoying the hotel facilities, which frankly is just basic but well done. Kudos to the great staff by the way.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Chinatown is just 10 mins walk away from the hotel. Buy your souvenirs on the last night of your stay so you don't lug around tons of stuff during your stay.

The hotel is in a beautiful old building right next to the heart of Chinatown. Breakfast is also quite good (only if included in the room booking; it's quite expensive otherwise).
The service is really slow.
I stayed at the Berjaya Hotel with some colleagues for a conference last week. The hotel is is a beautiful old building right next to Chinatown. Unfortunately things got off to a bad start, because it took over half an hour for three of us to check in. The front-desk person didn't read the Agoda booking confirmation sheet properly, and at first assigned us all 3 of us to one room. When pointed out that I had booked 3 rooms, he took the key off us and spent a long time tapping into the computer and talking to his colleagues.
When you arrive at a hotel at 9pm at night, 30 minutes is a long time to spend checking in!
When I finally got to my room (a standard room), I found that the shower wasn't working properly - the shower head was very old and clogged up so the water didn't come out properly. After telling the front desk about it the next day, they replaced the shower head at once. My advice would be to let the hotel know at once if something isn't up to scratch, because they don't seem to know if you don't tell them.
I had also booked an extra night (via an extra Agoda booking) after our initial stay, in a Deluxe room, which involved a room change. When it came time to change rooms, I was told that the only room left was a twin, when I had explicitly booked a double /king room as my wife was staying with me for that night. We were "upgraded" to a suite room with a "private garden" for the night, with the front desk person repeatedly saying that he was doing us a great favour and that we would be getting a room with a "private garden". The private garden turned out to be a small inner enclosed courtyard with all the rooms on upper floors looking down onto it. The room was really quite shabby for the price. A colleague of mine stayed in a Deluxe double-floor room with a spiral staircase that was much nicer - my advice would be to ask for a double room rather than one of the suites.
My other main gripe is the cost of internet access - something like $20 per day, wh
Nightlife Tip : Most of the bars on Duxton street are girlie bars. For a nice quiet beer and game of pool, there is a bar around the corner (sorry but I can't remember the exact street - ask at hotel reception) called the Equator Bar.

Well presented publiuc rooms. Nice Heritage building. Free upgrade to larger room.
Grubby bathroom, uncomfortable bed, some staff with poor attitude
At first site the Berjaya looks great. Anice heritage building on the edge of Chinatown with restaurants and bars close by. I was more than a little dissapointed with the standard of cleanliness. The light grills in the bathroom had years of accumulated filth and the floor looked grubby and stained. I had one major problem with the staff that really shouldn't have been a problem at all. The single internet station that was available was unable to print our boarding cards, not a disaster you would think but the night manager seemed to think that the fact I had used paper was the cause of the problem. In fact there were no drivers for the printer. I tried again later and this time there was no connection, again the manager thought it was my fault, in fact the connection had been disabled by a member of staff. Still not much of a problem , well this turned in to a long saga where said manager was unable to check any flight details on his office PC. The result was we got to the airport 6 hours early. Thank goodness Air Asia sorted it out for us and put us on an earlier flight. Maybe the problem related to one member of staff but I wouldnt stay there again.
Restaurant Tip : Harbour front cafe, very close to hotel, excellent food at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere, great staff.

Simple check-in procedure, courteous staff, clean and well maintained. An a la carte breakfast menu, which was included in the room rate. In a unique location, which affords easy access to the Maxwell food market, China Town and the restaurants around Club Street.
Although there was not anything specific that I disliked, they could improve the English language skills of the waiters.
The hotel, which used to be called The Buxton, is located in a street of many bars but which were very controlled and did not impinge on one's enjoyment. The rooms are excellent, I stayed in one of their duplex rooms i.e. the bedroom and bathroom were on a mezzanine. It is a friendly boutique hotel in a great location being close to China Town, the famous Maxwell food market and Club Street, wherein one finds great restaurants.
Nightlife Tip : Go to Club Street, which is in walkable distance to enjoy the restaurants there.

Very convenient location, friendly staff
Choose this hotel because of its location close to Chinatown and CBD, as well as its unique feature as a revamped old building. There are probably not many of such buildings in S'pore. Stayed for a total of 4 nights and we got a room which was clean and well kept, albeit abit small. The staff were very friendly and helpful! Overall good value for money, I reckon.

The location, the lobby area,
Do not stay in room 301 it is tiny should be classified as a store room not a double bed room
We arrived on the 6th of October very early in the morning we booked the room and paid from the 5th. Unfortunately myself and my wife have had a problem with my knee and the wife with her foot. The first thing we notice is that the lift did not stop on the floor that the room is but in between. W@e made the staff aware of our injuries and asked to change room with one where the lift stopped. We were there for 11 nights and the local hotel staff did not manage to find us an alternative room so we had to struggle with our walking sticks every time we left or returned to our room. The room we had 301 was tiny, not even a chair to seat down the only good thing was a very good shower. Disappointed is the least I can say. The location is excellent near the night markets in Chinatown and a taxi fare to the Airport is only around $18 Sin dollars.

Cheap rate for downtown hotel. Nice staff. Comfy bed.
Air-con did not work. Wifi in room did not work. Dated look and smell.
Although staff at the Berjaya were very cheerful and helpful, they had no way of fixing the air-con or the in-room wifi. I had to change to a smaller room after 11pm, and had to sit at the lobby to go online.
Restaurant Tip : Don't bother to eat at the hotel restaurant, try out local fare at the Maxwell Food Centre

Victorian style, I like this... Old England style. Very beautiful room, good service, beautiful hall of the lobby. Staff is very friendly.
If your windows are the street windows, you can not sleep until deep night, because the street is full of night cafes with music and another noise.
My staying: October 6-10, 2009.
Very nice old english style hotel in the peaceful area of Singapore. However, this street is silent only in daytime. After 7pm a lot of night cafes and restaurants opens with very loud music, and you can be bothered of it until 1-2am.
Anyway, the hotel is very nice, excellent and friendly staff, also very beautiful environment, the lobby is cute. Also room was qute large, with all necessary things. The service is also good, the room was clean all the time.
Nightlife Tip : A lot of night cafes around the hotel.

The room is clean and big, staff are friendly and very accommodating, 7/11 is just in front of the hotel, this is a perfect hotel for budget travelers. Those people who are looking for fancy amenities or family friendly hotel, this is not the place for you since the location is where a lot of bars are located. Perfect for people who want to get around Singapore since the MRT (tanjong pagar) is just few blocks away, about 5 minutes walk.
None much, just hoping that they offer the wifi access free already.
I will recommend this place to my friends who are not so picky with hotels. The price is very reasonable and I will definitely stay in this place again. I like the accessibility and there are several food shops near the area too not to mention Maxwell Hawker food court is also just a walking distance. I like the staff, very nice, most of them Filipino no wonder they offer very good service. Ideal for young tourists and business men on a budget. Definitely not for picky guest who expect 5 star amenities nor family with kids.
Travel tip : 7/11 is just across so no need to worry about food.
Maxwell Hawker Food Court is 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
Tanjong Pagar station is 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
Bring your own universal adaptor if you need to plug something, keeps the hassle out of the way.
Very friendly and helpful staff.

Good location, carefree embience, ethnic feel, easy access to local food stalls, easy parking.
No shelter at drop off so may get wet when it rains.
Our request of early checkin(incl quiet room, twin beds) was met, so we were pretty happy about that. Staff were efficient and friendly. The room was spacious and we love the ethnic look, but it can do with abit more lightings. The safe was not functioning but since we only stayed a night we did not fuss about it. During day time the area was all peace and quiet, yet not too far away from shopping areas. At night the place transformed into colors and became lively and yet not affecting the peace inside. Overall we had a pleasant one night stay.
Restaurant Tip : We had nice local food at the Maxwell Food Court which is just few minutes stroll away from the hotel. Just opposite the hotel we found 7-11 very convenient for any urgent needs.
