Staff were very helpful and we found that starting off with a joke at reception made all the difference.
Room was clean as was the hotel.
Flat screen TV was good too with a DVD player. Remember to ask for the remote at front desk.
Room a bit small and house keeping missed one day.
If you are a smoker you have to go outside but hey the lifts work fast.
Overall not a bad place for the price. Small but clean and since it is only for sleeping it was good value.
Staff were all very helpful and when we asked for a late check out they gave us an hour. when we came back several hours later to pick up our luggage they offered to let us use the shower free.
Always taxis outside and Joo Chiatt is full of life so it was a good place to stay.
We'll go back.
Hotel Feature Tip : there are three or four Hotel 81's in Joo Chiat. Make sure you get the street number right for the hotel you are booked into. We had to walk the whole length of the street because we missed that point! how often do you have three or four hotels all called the same thing in one street??

Quite clean and tidy, unexpectedly not too noisy even though with night life and pubs nearby. OK for budget stay.
two single beds unavailable though tried to talk to reception; was given a double bed, thus, not so comfortable for two big buddies!
A pleasant budget stay, nice foodstalls nearby, with walking distance we could taste various mouth watering delicacies simply only to be experience in Singapore. Unexpectedly quite decent and calm near hotel, even though with pubs nearbys, surprisingly was isolated from those disturbances from nightlife. REception was helpful and polite actually, carparks was quite convenient also. A Stay worthwhile!

A simple budget hotel in the midest of peranakan culture. There is a direct bus to the city which takes about 20 mins and costs only S$1.10
Rooms are a small and windows cannot be opened.
A simple budget hotel in the midst of peranakan culture. There is a direct bus to the city which takes about 20 mins and costs only S$1.10. For budget travellers, this is an ideal location where it's near the East Coast beach and it's also walking distance to all the well known local food. Recommended.

Easy recognised and nearby to few bus stations.
The hotel have some smells and smokes which make me a bit upset.
The hotel is more suites for those who wants a budget hotel because it is not very expensive and it convenient places. You will have choices to either take buses or MRT to the tourist destinations at Singapore. Nearby to the hotel, there are morning market where you can get to taste the Singapore's local foods and desert. There are also some mini market which you may get snacks, supper, etc. Conclusions, this hotel located at a convenient place but I would suggest to stay at Hotel 81 Classic which is also located at Joo Chiat Rd.
Shopping Tip : The hotel is nearby to few bus stations which I found a bit convenient to stay at and it is 15min walking distance to the MRT Payar Lebar so you can actually take the MRT to the famous shopping centre like Orchard Road, Tempinese and etc.

Stay here if you cant afford any other hotel. This is your very basic hotel. Hot water is not guaranteed! Rooms are old and smelly. Sheets are dirty. Location is irrelevant!

I have been to this hotel several times already. What makes me go back to this hotel because aside that the place is near to our customer's place the rate is also perfect for our budget. The location is convenient to any place I wanted to get into that is why I like I this hotel

In a local Thai area, not touristy
Good food around
Very nice staff
3/4 hour from airport in the evening traffic about 160 bt in the taxi. Trip back to airport at 5 am took about 15 mins.
Nice place to stay if not needing to be in downtown Bangkok. We booked a double and were given a suite. The next day as our flight was at 7 am and would miss the breakfast provided, they packed us an enormous breakfast of a sandwich and fruit and water.
Could be a good place to stay as there is a local ferry stop just down the road where you could take the ferry into Bangkok.
Taxi driver did not know this hotel-but they knew the temple at the end of the street so you might need to get the name of that-I can't remember what it was called.
Travel tip : Turn left at the main road after coming out of hotel lane and head about 5-10 mins. There is big shopping centre there. Past the shopping centre there is a lane with many food stalls at night, all open past 9 pm.

Outside noise low. Low price for clean sheets.
Air-con main unit above our room, so a lot of noise. Is in the red light district.
The hotel is in Joo Chiat Road. We stayed there during F1 in Singapore because every other reasonably priced hotel was booked.
Rooms look clean, sheets are clean, we had a window in our room. The room itself is very small the bed just fitted and then with our two suitcases the room was full. Shame that the outside unit of the aircon seemed to be placed just above our room, which gave us a lot of extra noise apart from the fact that the hotel itself and the surrounding is quiet and well noise protected. There is no breakfast but Joo Chiat road is a very busy roads with a lot of taxi's and eating. The Joo Chiat is the oldest of the 81 hotels in this road, you better pick one more at the beginning of the Joo Chiat road.

Not far from the airport and good price. Near by restaurants open late but not good or very clean. Prepare to rough it out a bit and watch what you eat if you are not used to the type of food.
Its obvious about the location. Not as bad as Geylang. A but noisy.
This was a place we stayed cause NWA gets in so late from Tokyo. We left to Bintan the next day so it would have been a waste or money to get a hotel in the city and taxi fare.

Lousy hotel in lousy part of the street.
Encouraged by Agoda and the Rough Guide we booked this hotel for three nights. At arrival they gave us a room without a window. After protesting we got a room with a small but sealed window. The bed only just fitted in the room and the bathroom was even smaller. After showering you couldn't use the toilet. The bathroom's windowsill Window couldn't be opened either) was covered in dust. A complete disappointment. We left one day earlier.
