The newly refurbished, budget hotel provides 84 comfortable guestrooms and is located in the Joo Chiat area of Singapore. The Hotel 81 Opera is located only a 15 minutes drive away from the Central Business District and the famous shopping belt of Orchard Road. Also nearby is Malay Village, where guests can learn about the Malay, who are the oldest ethnic community in Singapore. The 1-star hotel is in the Geylang neighborhood, which is filled with pre-war architecture, shop houses, mosques and temples. Guests will be surrounded by many authentic shopping arcades, local eateries, coffee shops, and hawker stalls. This area is well known for its bustling nightlife.

i could only stay 1 night of a 10 day stay as there seemed to be something biting me in the sheets,
however, i'm sure they can deal with that and even that can happen in the best hotels.
although my stay was not great here and the staff weren't too great I must say after i emailed hotel 81 customer service they were brilliant.
they immediately moved me to the hotel across the street the Sakura which was much nicer, friendlier and cleaner. seemed much newer.
the staff there - Jimmy especially were really great and friendly. the quality of room was above what i expected too. there was a little noise from some of the other rooms during my 9 day stay but thats only to be expected of the hotel and also the thin doors etc.
I was impressed with their service recovery and although i can't recommend the Opera, I will wholeheartedly recommend the SAKURA.
