The room is very clean, fast service from staff, lots of best buy shops around, very convenient for short stay in Singapore.
Hotel 81 is a very comfortable place to stay when you're visiting Singapore. You'll have an easy access to the MRT (10 mins walk) for going around and the place is very near to night market area(a good place to shop)
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The place is very near to night market shops where you can get the best deal on local items (try to bargain for the price)

The hotel is cheap spacious comfortable good bathroom facilities(strong hot shower and full bath). Hey it has a pool. The staff are terrific and very helpful. Possibly not for the tourist or business person it is a long way from a Hyatt. Breakfast by the pool is a great way to start the day. It is close to everything and very handy. The Malaysian food in the restaurants nearby is fantastic and very cheap. Its clean has good air conditioning and is comfortable.
This is an old hotel in good condition. It doesnt compare to the modern hotels of Singapore, but has everything that a traveller needs.

My wife says she would stay there again mainly because their is good shopping near by and close to to the train. She also likes the food in the nearby restaurants. She very much liked the service from the staff.
Travel tip : The food hall on the corner of the Tristar building has european and all asian cuisines. Meals cost between 5 to 10 Sin dollars. It is clean and the food there is great. Walk around and there are many shopping and food choices.

economical, comfortable and clean
This is a great place for budget conscious travellers who have to stay overnight in Singapore. It's easy to take the SMRT to Paya Lebar with hand luggage only and walk about 400m to the hotel. Lots of Malay food shops surround the hotel. Staff are friendly. Tea/coffee making facilities are provided and a fridge is standard. Good swimming pool.
Hotel Feature Tip : A good economical place for the independent traveller who doesn't want to be in the heart of the city.

The location is good and there are shops and restaurants close-by.
Without any toilet paper!
Generally, I am satisfied with the hotel. It is convenient to take MRT, only 10 minutes walking distance. There is a convenient store downstairs and some local bistros downstairs too. I don't have to walk too far and have good local food downstairs, very convenient.
Restaurant Tip : some local bistros downstairs. Very convenient!

Rooms simple not for leisure travellers.Next to the hotel there are a lot of muslim malay food complexes.

It is near an eating center, a mini market, and near to the airport (approximately 10 minutes)
The room and the bathroom is not clean, the room is not comfortable, no facility-only swimming pool.
During our stay in 81 Tristar Hotel, we didn't found the hotel impressive. We only use the hotel for sleeping after a long day out traveling Singapore. There are no facilities, even internet connection requires money. The location is far from Orchard Rd which is the most famous shopping center and also it takes 10 minutes to walk to the nearest MRT which is Paya Lebar MRT station.
Restaurant Tip : The hotel is located next to a food court that sells many kinds of food and drink with reasonable price.

Good location, good service good facilities
It is a good choice for a simple good hotel in Singapore. There are numerous restaurants around, it is close to the city center (15 min by taxi). The people at the reception were nice and welcomming and even helping with carrying bags to the taxi. It is a good choice for a day stay inbetween flights. The room is of a good size, it has wireless internet (free)
The room is well maintained and clean
Travel tip : There is an option of day stay which is good for those who have time inbetween flights

We kind of got scared we the taxi driver was taking us to a very narrow street kind of location. We were too tired to complain about anything 2:30am. Wwent to our room we were fine until we all fell a sleep. All of a sudden I hear a sound and dripping down water,I have turn the light on the aircondition was dripping, I called the front office they said they new the air condition does that, we need to switch the room.It was about 3:30 my 3 kids were sleeping how can I switch the room? Well, in the morning I asked to return some of my money because the room was unstisfactory. They didnt do any thing.I did like in room tea they gave me,i have got a bag of it,WOW.
They need to check and mark room for problems. Not to rent it to tired guests. They needed to refund some of the money because the wasnt worth the price.
I really liked the area. As everything was within walking distance. With three kids we were happy to pick this location. It was fun.

Warming Service, good airconditioner, clean
Limited Internet connection
Well, thanks for the Hotel 81 Tristar's good services, the guys there are very freindly and warming, and there is a nice and clean swimming pool inside, this is a real surpris which makes us joyful. On the other hand, some views of the rooms are not so good, even the windows can not be open. Meanwhile, the internet connect there is really limited, we got 3 rooms, but only 1 room has internet connection, and it's cable link, not wireless, if you can imporve these, that would be cool.
Anyway, you leave us a good impression. Thanks!

I liked this hotel because easy to find food. 24hrs restaurants just right down the hotel. Foods so nice and quite cheap. Shopping complex nearby. Easy to find taxi. Safe place to stay.
There is no personnel car parking space provided. there is no appropriate space for taxi nor the vehicles for loading or unloading for the hotel guest.
My family quiet happy stayed at this hotel because it cheap hotel, convenient, safe, cleaned & the staff are helpful. Even my 11 yrs old son fell safe when bought food and drinks downs the restaurants and 24 hrs shop. For my children they happy to swim at this hotel swimming pool. for the taxi no problem also if you gone to use MRT you have to walk 7min.
Shopping Tip : Especially those who are using credit cards for paying method, Ensure you ask them first how much you are gone to pay before you give your credit card. Otherwise you gone up to pay higher price then you expected although you card already swipe by them.

the hotel said breakfast wasn't included but I believe it should have been
For the economy traveller who is in transit or has light luggage, it is so easy to get to the hotel from the airport using SMRT. Get off at Paya Lebar and walk about 400m. Rooms are spacious and clean but a bit spartan. There is a big range of local eating places directly outside the front door.
Travel tip : save on taxi, hotel and food costs by staying here.

walking distance to MRT
good value food areas - Zains at the end of street
about 20 min walk to beach
clean
has a pool
helpful and friendly staff
roomy hotel rooms
cant think of anything to dislike
yes was a red light area but nothing to worry about, no one approaches you, has a 'feel safe' environment
Our second visit to this hotel was better than the first, new owner, much nicer staff, swimming pool is great after the humidity of the day and walking around. Thoroughly enjoy this hotel because it is so handy to MRT and that will take you anywhere. Has some market stalls in easy walking distance. Money changer and supermarkets very close by. LOVE IT!!! LOVE SINGAPORE!!! will definately stay here again. Please note there is no restaurant at the hotel though so there is no breakfast etc. 'Cheers' (deli) right next door to hotel, has everything u need for a snack, Bakeries in walking distance can buy from there and take back to hotel.
Restaurant Tip : ZAINS restaurant close by he has the best food at very cheap prices eat in or take away. Fantastic staff there too.

Friendly staff,
excellent location,
Swimming pool,
Many food shops nearby,
Airconditioning excellent
Large room
Slightly tatty lino floors,
Nothing else to complain of
I have stayed at several hotels in the 81 chain (also in the Fragrance chain), and I think this is the best yet. For budget hotels, the rooms are really large. There are lots of really great eateries in the nearby vicinity. The Red Light district on Joo Chiat Road is far enough away not to matter. Finally, the staff were really nice, giving me free use of the computer, and meeting my request for a room on an upper floor. I'll definitely be staying there again.
Restaurant Tip : The cheap Vietnamese eateries on Joo Chiat street were really good value for money. So were the Halal eatinbg houses directly under the hotel.
