Location within walking distance to Raffles, the Performing Arts complex by the river, Orchard Road, other shopping areas. Clean, comfortable. No frills.

Fairly basic, but nothing missing. The sidewalk breakfast was pretty limited for choice.

Good, convenient location, friendly staff at the desk. Got a King size room although I'd booked and paid for a Queen size. The room and en-suite bathroom were basic but had all I needed - clean, comfortable bed, dresser, TV, electric jug, bar fridge, climate control, outlook. The included breakfast was fine but very limited choice. Served on the sidewalk outside the hotel.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The fine arts museum, the famous Raffles, and the performing arts complex are all an easy walk from here.

Great location which is nearby the MRT station, staff are friendly, near the convenient food court

No much choices for break fast, very poor, menus were the same during our stay

This is good location, convenient for traveling, and the price is acceptable. Staffs are friendly and we were warmly welcome on arrival. Much appreciate that some staff can speak our Vietnamese language even though just little. However, the hotel should improve the breakfast as it is very poor now, not much choices and the menus were not changed at all. In general, we satisfy with with hotel, and will come back if we have a chance to travel to Singapore again.

Quiet Hotel, friendly greeting and service, good sized room and large bathroom with seperate shower.

Slow lift, smokey and dark dining area

The Hotel Bencoolen is very centrally located, with the cheapest shopping in Singapore( Bugis St Markets) only 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Rooms are spacious for the price you pay. The shower is lovely and hot and the pool is small but adequete and secluded. Taxi's are available from the front of the hotel any time of day. Breakfast is also satisfactory considering the price. We left the hotel feeling very refreshed and with the same friendly farewell as when we were originally greeted. I would recommend this hotel to the shoppaholic because it is very centrally located to everything Singapore has to offer!

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Definately go to Sentosa but don't get ripped off, book your tickets at Vovo Plaza before you go to the Cable Car!!! To experience the best and favorite local outdoor eating area, grab a taxi and go to Newton Circus. Don't be fooled by the name, it is just an eating area. Newton Circus has so much atmosphere, eat amongst the locals in a very relaxed atmosphere. Food is delicious, very fresh and excellent value for money. The coldest beer in Singapore!!! Their motto is "You don't like you don't pay!" I guarantee you will not be disappointed! After sunset, go to The Fountain of Wealth at Suntec City. It's the largest downwards circular fountain in the world. Light shows are on every evening til 8:30pm. You can have personal messages projected into the fountain during the show for free, quite a spectacle...After the show go into the centre of the fountain for your good luck!

Main selling points: 1) Clean 2) Friendly staff 3) Attend complain promptly.

Need improvement: 1) Cool water in toilet is extremely less. 2) Should provide 2 bottles of mineral water

Good for those with tight/economic travel budget. Near to main attraction.

small hotel, clean facilities, friendly staff, porter was very obliging and nothing was a trouble to him -good breakfast included in price, clean pool

Musty smell - like a tropical environment- had difficulty locating light switch to turn lights off- only way we could do it was to take the card out of the door. needed to be careful of step when coming out of bathroom -would be great if breakfast could start earlier

we only stayed for one night but would certainly stay at this hotel when we come to singapore again. felt safe- very quiet and had no trouble sleeping it ws very convenient for shopping within easy walking distance to bugis street - could easily get a taxi outside the front door - even though breakfast was not open to 7.30 am the breakfast staff allowed us to commence eating as they were setting up because we had to leave by 7.15- what we ate was delicious- noodles were really great as was the percolated coffee

Friendly and helpful team

Toileteries e.g. soap, hair and and body shampoo does not reflect the Hotel's standard..due to poor quality and its packing...

Although Bencooleen Hotel is a non smoking hotel, but there is cigarette smell. Improving of the toileteries would enhance welcoming feeling. The need to correct the shower floor as water is slow to drain. Guests spend at least an hour in the washroom for each day. The breakfast needs further improvement esp. the display of the array of freshly cut fruits.

location

worst front office staff (they really need some serious training) & horrible breakfast

I thought hotels come under the 'hospitality' industry before I visited Bencoolen Hotel, Singapore. The lady at the front office was not only excruciatingly rude but was clueless on how to treat guests. She did everything, I mean every single thing, that a front desk staff was not supposed to do. Overall, an eventless stay. If you are vegetarian, you would have a hell eating breakfast there.

good location ,near mrt and orchard road!

small rooms.

the location of the hotel is perfect and the rates on agoda are worth it. the rooms could have been bigger and the restrooms more neat. but overall, it is a good place to stay. the best part is the breakfast that is included in the room fare and also the mrt station that is 10 min and the bus stand just opp the hotel. the hotel staff was nice. they let us check in at around 8am itself. so, overall, a decent experience.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : orchard rd in the night and the mrt station - huge!

Great Location _ 5 minute walk from Orchard Rd, Bugis, Sim Lim Square, MRT ( Bugis and Dhoby Ghaut) Food Outlets. Clean rooms, Friendly staff, Efficient check in with kindness allowing us access to the room 6 hours before check in time.

Some may say the rooms are small, but in two weeks stay we used it to sleep and store our purchases. If you want to spend all day in the hotel, you may need a more expensive site. TV is not cable so limited channel choice, but why travel if you want to watch TV!

As a professional couple, we approached this hotel with concern having read some of the previous reviews - we couldn't have been more wrong! The rooms are clean and well maintained. Any problems were fixed on the day. The AirCon was cold and adjustable from the room. I did not try turning it off but why would you want to? Two weeks stay did not show any problems...If you are into ballrom dancing around the bed, the area may be a bit small, but we stored all our shopping, had an ironing board permanently set up and did not want for a better room! Yes, it is of older style, but we came to see the city and country, not live at a resort. Close proximity to MRT, Orchard Rd,Bugis, SimLim, and a pleasant 10 minute stroll to the Mustafa Centre and Little India make the location hard to beat. Breakfasts were not Cordon Bleu but with cereal, fruit juice, eggs, sausage, ham, spaghetti, baked beans, toast, fruit and assorted sweet things included in the room price, all eaten at a road side venue that gave the feeling of Singapore waking up, we could not have asked for more! In the past we have stayed in Hotels costing three times as much when visiting Singapore. Whilst lacking the grand Lobby and the costumed staff, The Bencoolen represents far better value for money and gave us the feeling of "Home" rather than "Cash Cow". We will stay there again.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walk! Singapore is smaller than you think and nearly anything in the city you want to see is a short walk away. We are in our mid 50s and had no problem getting any where on foot. The MRT is close so anything further afield is easy access via either Bugis or Dhoby Ghaut.

very accessible and just a minute walk from major city destination, hotle staff are very accomodating. near churches and parks. hotel got amenitites for you to enjoy. if you are on budget i can recommend this hotel

Power supply during day time is not available, meaning you can not charge your batteries during daytime and got only one convenience outlet. TV is not cable you got very few channel to watch.

The hotel is very accessible, 2 minute walk you already the bus stop where almost all routes are passing including the route for the airport. Just crossing 1 major road and you already rexch the electronic and camera capital of singapore, a few more walk will take you to the little india and Mustafa a 24/7 store. Going on opposite directions will lead you to the museum and fort canning and to the famous orchard road. another few minutes of strolling will take you to the esplanade and river quay. if you are not tired of walking and on budget this hotel is the best place to stay

Shopping Tip : If you go on shopping you must be aware of thier tricks in cinvinding you another item which they will manipulate by showing you that the one you choose is not good and you will end up adding another money for the features that they offer to you. sometimes they will give you lower price but the item is not available and you will be offerred other items. there are no price tags on thier products so bargaining is the game.
