Quiet location but not well-maintained hotel

Did not like the hotel at all.
Check-in service was awfully slow despite the fact that the room was paid for in advance and in full.
I stayed at many hotels during this vacation. This was the only hotel where the receptionist tried to bargain to give another room (smoking while I asked for non-smoking).
it took them around 2 hours to send someone to open the safe box which was locked when I arrived at the room.
The A/C was not cooling at all. It was frozen. I did not dare to ask for help fearing to lose time waiting for service.
bed sheets were old and almost ripped apart.
I waited another one hour for the house keeping guy to supply washing machine powder soap in the self-service laundrette.
Overall, the hotel was not up to standard but Singapore itself made up for that. We tried not to stay at the hotel room as much as we could.
Hotel Feature Tip:
if you could find another hotel which suits your budget and requirements, go for it.

Value for money, close to the city and every other amenities, foods and drinks are all nearby, hotel is acceptable clean, proper, neat. Staffs are friendly, nice and always smilling especially the cleaning ladies. Room is not stuffy, toilet is clean and all equipment are working properly. Bed is comfortable and nice.

Nice rooms
The rooms are relatively bigger than other hotels

This hotel is value for money. If traveling with family, might not be the ideal option because there is a noisy pub at the lobby, which also makes the area smokey. Other than that the newly renovated rooms are clean and good.

Great location and close to everything

The Royal hotel was a pleasant stay for our family. It is very close to the main shopping district, the staff where very friendly and was even able to store our luggage there after our check out as our plane flight was at night (very handy) The rooms where clean and the breakfast was awesome. Only downside was having to get 2 rooms (which becomes quite expensive) because we had three children, They did organise side by side rooms otherwise we would not have stayed. All in all a very good stay and very good Hotel.

Friendly staff and close to MRT, bus stop at front door. Large room and good facilities. Domestic staff friendly and kept room clean at all times. Breakfast a little expensive but good selection of food available.
Close to City centre and easy access to Orchard Road via MRT or Bus

We were given a family room where the Air condition was not working effectively, after 2 nights in a room without the AC and after 4 complaints we were given another room for the last night we stayed. we were very disappointed because we had a sick child who needed a proper room with a good temperature.
