Spacious, modern clean rooms, staff courteous & helpful, central Singapore city location, close to MRT & taxis, shopping and attractions.

slight musty smell in corridors, no iron/ironing board, strange lift button set up

I stayed 5 night around New Year 2010, 20th floor Excelsior Tower. The newly refurbished rooms were very spacious, modern and clean. a very nice view from 20th floor. All hotel staff I encountered were courteous and helpful. The hotel is very central in Singapore city, right next to Funan (IT) Shopping Mall and very close to the City Hall MRT station. A slight musty 'wet carpet' smell was sometimes noticeable in the corridors. Unfortunately no iron/ironing board was in the rooms unless asked housekeeping, lift buttons on each floor only 'call' the lifts in each side of the button (so need to press both lift buttons to 'call' all 3 lifts!). But the downside is lifts often stop at a floor and no-one is there (since they already caught another lift that came quicker when they pressed both buttons!)

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Raffles Hotel for your Singapore Sling at the Long bar is within easy walking distance. Orchard Rd shopping is only 3 stops and 1 Singapore dollar (once other $1 is refunded at destination) away from very nearby City Hall MRT station!

Location is the best selling point of the Peninsula Excelsior Hotel

Quite old, needs refurbushing

When I was searching for hotel to stay in Singapore for the New Year holidays with my 2 kids, the Peninsula Excelsior Hotel caught my attention with their absolutely delighful rate, thinking that it belonged to the Peninsula Hotels chain, I thought the amount was a steal. And so I booked us to six nights. But after I paid and all, I was thinking why the hotel rating was different from what they claim in the Agoda website, four-star, as against in other wibsite reviews, they were only rated three-star. So, I went to their website and found out that it is not in any way connected with the Peninsula Hotels chain, and I felt frustrated, and began to doubt whether we were going to have a nice place to stay in Singapore. But there was nothing more we can do because we already paid for our booking. When we arrived in Singapore, we were kind of fearful of what waited for us once we reach our hotel. Upon arrival and seeing the reception area on the ground floor was small, we felt the feeling of disappointment sinking. But when we were told we had to take the elevator to go to the lobby, we were like surprised, "huh, so this is not the lobby?" So when we got to the "real"hotel lobby, then the picture totally changed. What we saw delighted us. More important, we asked for our room to be upgraded and we were given a very nicely located corner room where we can see the Singapore flyer, the Raffles City, several churches, etc. We were totally satisfied with our room and that meant we had a really comfortable stay in Peninsula Excelsior. To top it all, once we started walking around, we discovered how conveniently located our hotel was: it was a short walking distance to 3 Catholic churches, one can also walk to Raffles City, Raffles Hotel and Arcade, Bugis Junction, Chjimes, Clarke Quay, Marina and Esplanade! I cannot stop telling my friends that I couldn't have chosen a better hotel, really! The front desk, concierge and housekeeping staff were kind and accomm

Shopping Tip : There were many places to shop within walking distance from hotel, ranging from small gift items, clothes (local and internation brands), electronics, as well as many place where you can eat.

A bit noisy (not really much concern) for rooms close to the elevator. No free complimentary drinking water

Our family stayed there during new year break. Very easy access to City Hall MRT - just about 150m. Walking distance to Esplanade (the new year countdown place), Fullerton, Merlion, Sir Stamford, City Link Mall, Fountain of Wealth. Very close to peninsula plaza with some good place for breakfast and with 7eleven, Old Chang Gee. 7eleven goods were a bit expensive though. The room is clean and very comfortable. A bit of old smoking-like smell but very light and not bad for non-smoker like me. The reception was helpful and tried their best to find 3 rooms close to one another.

Shopping Tip : Best bet for shopping would be the City Link Mall/Raffle City/Marina Square which are within close walking. But for general shopping aholic with more places to find beter deal, I would recommend you stay at a hotel on Orchard Road.

Price, location no so bad

reception on 5th floor, main entrance not so great. otherwise, hotel is just fine

the rooms were large enough and clean. staff were very helpful. buffet breakfast not so great, but it was not too bad.

Shopping Tip : The huge Digital mall is right behinfd the hotel (1 minute walk)

The location is about 15 to 20 mins walk to Raffles City, 5 mins to Funan IT Mall, very convinient. The Room is very clean and Confortable.

The studio room was good. The pool was interesting.

The entrance was not too good

The hotel was interesting with the lobby on the 6th floor and a beautiful view of the pool. the staff was courtious and helpful.The only negative point was that we could not book the room with breakfast. But the Colemans resturant and the coffe house on the ground floor were good. there was plenty of places to eat in the area and the surrounding area was nice. Thje view from the room was nice of the buildings and the sea.

Fantastic views of Singapore, great swimming pools for adults and kids. Loved the bedroom decor, especially the window feature between bathroom and bedroom. Very Clean and friendly staff.

Some of the floors were under renovation, which meant it could get a bit noisy, but the hotel generally made sure the noise was kept to a minimum

The hotel is in a great location, 10 minutes walk from Raffles, shopping centre and the MRT. The facilities are excellent, with 2 good sized swimming pools, gym and even a night club. The bedroom was a good size, very clean and comfortable. The views over the city are fantastic, especially at night. I would definately stay there again.

Shopping Tip : The MRT is a great way to get around the city, cheaply and quickly - Orchard Road is a shoppers paradise.

Great location if you love to be near the Museums and Galleries. This is a fantastic hotel to stay at during the Singapore F1, Gate 4 is literally outside the door

The hotel lobby is old and dated, not giving a great first impression.

Would be considered an "old" hotel by modern Singapore's standard but it's a great hotel for mid-range travellers who don't want to be stuck with the "Orchard Road Shopping" syndrome. It has great MRT links but you can walk to most of the Museums, galleries, restaurants and shops in 15 minutes.

Clean, classy, comfortable, good service, spacious bathroom.

Although refurbished somethings were already beginning to show wear. flush was not working properly. bathroom shower glass shelf slanted and kept making bottles fall off.

I was rather picky as i knew some of their rooms have a problem of being rather musty. I've stayed here 3 times before. I was aware of recent refurbishing and renovations. I did note the reception i wanted to be away from the construction noises and in a non smoking room. I was very surprised when i checked into my room and found it very different from the ones i had stayed in before. Checking out online later i found that i had been given a premier club room although i booked for a superior. I will definitely have to bring my husband the next trip n book a club room. I loved the interior and lighting. Very clean and comfy bedding. Bathroom was spacious with a separate shower section and a bath tub on other end. Staff were very polite and helpful especially when requesting for late check out, no fuss, quick and hassle free. Really enjoyed my stay although traveling alone it felt very comfortable. 7-11 is just across the road and the city hall MRT is a very short walk away. I ordered room service n food arrived about an hour later so do note.

Shopping Tip : Get an ezlink card and you can travel at ease. Public transport is clean n reliable. You can spend hours just shopping or checking out the tourist stops marked on MRT stations like the Chinese Garden.

Rapid check-in/check-out service Premier room was nice and clean Exquisite view of the city from the lounge on the 22nd floor It's so close to Funan and the MRT!!!

Low variety for breakfast You need to pay for the mineral water provided in the room!!! Not much of privacy when you are in the swimming pool. The Sauna was unavailable during my stay. They serve non-halal food also during breakfast

I was there on a professional trip and holidays also with my family for 5 days. We got a very good deal from Agoda. We stayed in a Premier rooom. I can say it was a pleasant stay as my 14 month old kid enjoyed it too. I just had to cross the road to reach the Adelphi and Funan was just 2 mins walk from the hotel. MRT was 5 mins walk...so everything was so accessible. However Halal food could be some kin of tricky to look for. In summary it was a pleasant stay...Not to forget it's a very nice 20 mins walk-away from Clark Quay

Very good location, close to MRT and everything good price, large room and clean, good service

The elevator is very slow and need to wait long time

It is a good choice for stay in Singapore. The hotel located very close to cityhall MRT. The double room is big and clean. The staff is very friendly, providing useful information about the city and other things.The only bad thing is the elevator is too slow and one is broken. As to the breakfast, I have no comments. The internet in the room is very convenient. The price is very attractive

Comfortable and well furnished rooms. Efficient staff.Very convenient location for all central Singapore attractions.

Shower cubicle had no tray to put soap or the shampoo and shower liquid dispensers, quite inconvenient when trying to have a shower.

Excellent , and very convenient for all Singapore attractions, very close to MRT stop (City Hall), and handy for bus services as well. The modern room, although a bit small, was very well furnished with LCD TV with a varied selection of English language channels, including CNN but not BBC World. The bathroom had separate shower cubicle as well as a full length bath, and the range of toilet accessories was very comprehensive, and was topped up every day. Also proved were disposable slippers and bathrobe, and the range of clothes hangers was excellent. The security safebox was huge !! Air conditioning was easily controllable, and lighting was excellent with many light sources, amny of which were dimmable. All in all an excellent. convenient and economical choice for a central Singapore hotel.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Excellnt choice if you need to easily get around Singapore by public transport.

Good location reasonable pricing

Old builidng low class feel reception staff was not very friendly

Conveniently located with good access to public transport and shopping not to mention restaurants and bars (Clark quay is within walking distance). Reasonably priced. Old hotel building with a tinge of mouldy smell in the walkways. This building is definitely due for refurbishment. Many foreign workers loitering around the area gives it a slightly lower class feel. Also the staff at the reception were cold when attending to guests

Nice ambiance

Just need to eliminate those tiny ants.

It's a very comfort and nice hotel to stay at.the location was very good as well. Staff are all friendly and very helpfull.we try to book there again but it was totally full for 31st dec 2009. Will look forward to stay there again next time.the price are very reasonable as well.
