Showing signs of wear, but not bad, and still a bargain for SG. Good location between two train stations on different lines.

Singapore can be a really expensive place to stay. Most of the cheaper hotels are kind of dodgy, or in a red light district. Royal Peacock is the cheapest hotel you'll find with free internet and free breakfast and its not a dump at all. Its not fancy, but is better than expected. I booked a room without a window to save a few bucks and hope to avoid the hot Singapore sun. But they upgraded me to a big window anyway. Not bad.

Nightlife Tip : Food is cheap in Singapore- try the hawker stands in the Chinatown complex just down the street from the hotel and be sure to get a 24oz bottle of beer form the beer stall for S$5. Alot of SG nightlife is kind of clubby or expat, but if you look, you can find decent local bars and Brooklyn style loft parties. Hit the roof deck at Screening Room, the veranda bar at the Espalande- Orgo, and watch out for bars with blacked out doors and pretty girls singing karaoke. Those aren't really just karaoke bars.

The old traditional chinese style, but only decorated in the lobby

Not clean. The air has molded smell with no working well air conditioning.

The air has molded smell with no working well air conditioning. The hot water system is out of order usually. I took twice cold water bath. The washing basin has obstruction cause water flooding. This is the second room I change after, while I was opening the door, even see a roach in the hall way.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : close to MRT

Lovely lobby, good breakfast buffet, friendly staff.

Cell-like rooms, horrible shower, dysfunctional internet.

The lobby of this small and very well located (heart of Chinatown) hotel promise a lot. Unfortunately, it all goes downhill after initial impressions. The room was spartan and cell-like, the shower ridiculous, and the promised internet NEVER worked. A real disappointment that I will unfortunately avoid in the future.

Restaurant Tip : A good inexpensive meal can be had at the Maxwell Food Court, quite close to this hotel!

Clean, quiet, reasonably good location.

Tired hotel, no frills.

I had an interior single room. This is a very basic hotel room with limited lighting. It is very quiet with no windows. Things, like aircon, only mostly work; struggled to get a consistent, comfortable temperature in the room and first room aircon didn't do anything. Breakfast is basic but okay with a little variation each day. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Restaurant Tip : Street food places across the street are pretty good.

Location, friendly staff and reasonable rate

A little tired, old carpet, needs painting, poor water pressure and air con control needs replacing

Overall for the price this is a good stop over hotel. Its location in chinatown is excellent and close to 2 MRT train stations. The Maxwell Market Food Court is just 5 mins walking distance and offers a great range of low cost dishes that tempt the taste buds. The Royal Peacock Hotel offers value for money for short stays but is in need of an upgrade.

Restaurant Tip : Maxwell Market Food Court is a must to visit.

Great location. Breakfast was good. Helpful staff.

The carpet, defintely.

Hotel has personality but need some little improvement, first at all a new carpet floor. Location is perfect for visiting Chinatown and catching the MRT. In general, it was good value for money and I would stay again if i returned to Singapore.

V good location in China town. Staff V helpfull and polite. pleasent atmosphere

Room was a little small. Although room was clean it could have done with a coat of paint

My stay at the hotel was a pleasent one and I would revisit if I returned to Singapore, the improvement points I have noted above. However if I had been looking for the hotel from the picture on the web site I doubt I would have found it as the picture and reality were very different.

Location, helpful staff, character, quaint.

Moldy, stained carpets, breakfast.

For a character boutique hotel you would think that they would keep up the little things. We left after one night because of mold on the walls and stains on the carpet. We changed to a second room right after we checked in. The staff was very helpful in getting us a room we could put up with. The location in Chinatown can't be beat. The hotel was recommended by friends who stayed there 2 years ago. Apparently they have not been keeping up the maintenance.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It is just a few blocks from the Chinatown Market and the MRT.

Location very close to China Town Charming old Singaporian building Clean

Very small room Poor shower Noisy

The bathroom was very basic: no bathtube and poor shower. It was that type of shower which can only be used to wash yourself not to enjoy it. My room was on the street which remains busy very late at night resulting in a very noisy atmosphere.

Excellent buffet breakfast available till 10.30 am

Single rooms are really tiny

My 2 night stay co-incided with the beginning of much-needed renovations, so in a month or two it will most likely no longer be rather shabby and in need of new carpets, curtains etc. The position is very convenient for Chinatown, but nothing else. However there are buses just round the corner and MTR train stations within ten minutes walk.

Good looking and authentic hotel. Good location and near MRT station.

Room is clean but bathroom is not clean. There are many bars near the hotel, so some rooms are so noisy.

It looks so old and authentic hotel. But location is convenient. It takes only five minutes on foot from Chinatown MRT station. Breakfast is so so. Nothing special. Bathroom is not good, because only shower, no bathtub. The costs is not so high because Singapore is so expensive hotel. Staff is normal. Not so friendly.

Location : Edge of Chinatown, Handy to Outram Park MRT(Line to Changi Airport)Service good, Restaurant nice

Small rooms, Rooms on uphill side are near a disco next door that goes to 3.00am( The staff let me move to another room on the second night away from this)

A good location in a heritage building so there is some character about it. The staff are courteous and helpful. The rooms are small but clean and nice and the beds great for a good nights sleep. There are lots of bars and places to eat nearby and being handy to the MRT makes moving around Singapore easy. Cabs are readily available outside too. It is handy to clubs and nightlife as well as places to eat and shop in Chinatown.

Nightlife Tip : Bars in Chinatown

Breakfast was good, coping well with both Western and Asian requirements. Restaurant attractive in its simplicity. Rooms clean.

Rooms dark and gloomy. Tired furnishing. Poor use of lighting.

I've stopped at Peacock before. At first I enjoyed the quirkiness of a boutique hotel, where despite lack of windows in some cases, good use was made of subtle lighting and decor. Over the years this initial attractiveness has become faded and very tired, to the point of depressing. After I flew in from an initial break in Bali, I was offered a room which I rejected, then another room which seemed more equipped for a wheelchair user. My third room on offer was reasonably tolerable, so, by now embarrassed, I took it. The decor was still poor and lighting still wholly dull. Oh dear Peacock, why have you destroyed all my fond memories! Looking back I guess I can smile a little at the memory of my first morning on this trip when the rain was leaking into the bathroom, and I had to sit on the toilet with a towel over my head to keep dry!!!! Just about sums it up? But the staff were pleasant.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Many local 'Temples' etc. Good cultural base. Thriving 'market' base. Good area for MTR.
