i got a great deal through agoda for the santa grand hotel lai chun yuen ("sghlcy") and the hotel itself is right in the heart of chinatown, only a short walk away from the chinatown mrt stop and with easy walking to club street, clarke quay, and other locales. i was okay with and expecting a small room -- mine was a bathroom with a shower over the toilet and barely any more space than the bed and desk, but the room was livable and clean enough, particularly if you plan on spending most of your day exploring.
literally in the span of the 15-30 minutes it took them to change the light in my bathroom and from me to return from checking out a nearby laundromat. i went to the main desk to complain and the maintenance guy sitting there played dumb. the desk attendant said they would look into it. i checked in later in the day and the maintenance guy was still hanging around and the attendant said i would be contacted by a manager. well, that never happened. it's unfortunate that an otherwise nice stay was marred by poor staff.

Quite good budget hotel
The best one is location, it very near mrt! Second is room for a solo traveller is quite nice but every small in size and the last thing got free wifi in ur room

Service is good I lost one key card and they didn't charge me for the second one! Breakfast is quite poor!

The room was kept clean and was spacious enough for two people. The only issue was the noise from the street which was only quiet for a couple of hours during the early morning.

The hotel is located in the heart of Chinatown within walking distance to MRT and bus stops. Food centres and restaurants are located around the hotel. A very conveniently located hotel. The room is quite small with not much space to put luggage and the bathroom is not comfortable. Breakfast is quite simple, bread with jam or butter, sausages, ham and eggs. You can also opt for cereals. What I love most are the cleanliness, the convenient location and the price.

Badly designed toilet layout. The toilet bowl is almost impossible to use for people with longer legs. The pub opposite is noisy during weekend nights. Bad quality bed.

The stay was OK but the rooms were not very new and every single item that the person is doing in the next room is so clear. It is quite scary actually as you can hear the person in the next room going to the toilet, showering, packing, etc.
