Ticked all the boxes of a 5 star establishment. Plus very central location, good lunch buffet and a pretty pool with lots of plant/wildlife.

None

Our stay at the Shangri-La was a dream from start to finish. Only booked the day before our arrival but our room in the Garden Wing was ready when we arrived at 9 am with two small tired children in tow. We were also allowed to keep the room until 5 pm on day of departure - again to give our baby a sleep before the flight, at no extra charge. The room was spacious and clean and the bed was extremely comfy. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient and a return visit is our no.1 priority. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the main shopping area of Orchard Road and Little India, Chinatown and Arab Street each all less than a S$10 taxi ride away.

Hotel Feature Tip : Hotel Spa open til midnight - so with small children you can still indulge in a little 'me' time after they've gone to bed.

Pool, food, choice of restaurants, service.

Price a little steep.

Overall the hotel is excellent--the gardens, quality of food and service are all as to be expected from a hotel of this quality. I stayed only for the weekend but will return again soon for another visit. On the first night I had a table of ten booked into the Japanese restaurant; the quality was the best I have ever had but be prepared to pay the price, around 250 SGD per head. The buffet breakfast and lunch are also very good but again not cheap really. Singapore in general is expensive.

Travel tip : The hotel is close enough to Orchard Rd to do all that is required but the hotel feels like it stands alone a true oasis.

Friendly, helpful, professional, clean, safe and fantastic food. Accommodation is typically Shangri-la!

Views not great.

I've stayed at a number of Shangri-La hotels around SE Asia and therefore had high expectations in Singapore. I was not disappointed, however, I'd booked through Agoda and was offered an upgrade in room for 100 sing dollars per night (inc breakfast). This moved me from the Tower Wing to the Garden Wing. What the hotel did not inform me was the work that was underway in this new wing. Noisy! I complained and the hotel management immediately kicked into sort the problem. I was moved to a far higher grade room in the executive section, included in the privileges that applied there and was discounted on the original upgrade fee. Lesson learned is that problems do sometimes arise and for me, the test of the hotel is whether those problems are addressed. In this case the Shagri-La was typically superb.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Use the subway for moving around the city, it's only a short walk.

I was enjoyed the breakfast, and the suite is luxy and extremely clean.

Far from shopping center.

It is a pretty luxy stay for us, we do enjoy the swimming pool and the room service during stay, but it's too far from central city, we need to take shuttle bus even just to buy water. Also, we couldn't take a rest during shopping, it's inconvienient.

Shopping Tip : The best way is to take taxi whenever you wanna go out.

- friendly and knowledgeable staff - location - few minutes walk down to the CBD/Orchard Rd, yet nowhere near as busy/noisy as the Orchard Rd hotels

- some renovations are happening at the moment, but nothing of significance.

Even if you are not a buffet breakfast person, Shangri-La’s buffet – ‘The Line’ is definitely worth a try.

Travel tip : - transport in Singapore – either taxis or MRT - is a bargain (compared to Australia). - if you feel like a jog ask at the hotel for a map. They give an id card sized map in a plastic pouch attached to a lanyard outlining a nice and safe running route. - Kinokuniya at Takashimaya has good choice of books.

Great place to stay if you are there for shopping as it is only a 3min walk to Orchard Rd.

Shopping Tip : Takashimaya was by far my favourite shopping experience, excellent boutiques throughout the complex and the department store itself is very good. For a restaurant experience you must try a restaurant located at the 70th floor of the SuissHotel. It is an amazing experience and the food is of exceptional quality.

Membership of Golden Circle Club (Shangri-La loyalty program, offered free on check-in) gave significant discounts on in-house food and drinks and not incompatible with our Agoda booking.

Location. Service. Views.

Not sure there are any.

This hotel exceeds expectations. Like most 5-star hotels in Asia the level of service is exception. The staff and their cultral ways is geared towards smiling at guests! It's more than comfortable. The staff are more than willing. The Singapore Sling cocktails are more than exquisite to drink. The presentation of the food is magnificent. It's a busy hotel and rightly so in this part of the world. There is something wonderful about feeling like you are in Asia by staying at one of these hotels, rather than the homogenous options of a "American branded" hotel. One really feels like there's a slight glimpse into the Expat lifestyle here as the 'neighbourhood' and surrounds indicate so.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walk everywhere from this hotel - to get a feel for the area. The shops really are not very far away. And yet, it feels like a home away from home environment because it's not amongst the hussle and bustle.

A better alternative in the roughly same price range is the Grand Hyatt which is better located, with better furnished rooms. The name of Shangri-La is somehow exaggerated and the hotel starts to get old compared to other options in Singapore. For its price, you should feel more like a member of the 'family', which is not the feeling you get at the S-La Singapore.

Great place to stay in Singapore.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : As taxi is so inexpensive it is very nice that the hotel is not located in the very middle of the city.

I have travelled and explored extensively throughout South East Asia with my family over the last 15 years. We have stayed in many Hotels and some hovels boasting to be Hotels. But, the stay at the Shangri-la has been by far the best I have ever encountered. From the minute we walked through the doors I got the feeling that we were part of the family. So much so I have planned a return stay in April 2008. The room was breathtaking only to be complemented by the view from the windows over looking Singapore.

Restaurant Tip : Eating at Newton Circus fantastic.

It is definitely worth the extra money to stay in the Valley Wing. Drinks, canapes, breakfast all included with silver service. It is quieter than the main hotel, with a seperate lobby and entrance. Really like staying in a smaller boutiqe hotel of an excellent calibre, but still with the facilities of a larger hotel.

Restaurant Tip : Nada Man Japanese Reastaurant was world class authentic Japanese food.
