helpful staff, close proximity to best attractions

We enjoyed our stay at the Swissotel Merchant Hotel. As mentioned it was within easy walking distance of a number of attractions including the Singapore Flyer, night laser show, merlion, etc as well as being close to a large shopping complex,a train station, & just across the river was any number of alfresco dining outlets. We had a balcony room & it was lovely to sit outside in the evening & watch the night lights come on & listen to the hustle & bustle coming from across the river. The pool on the 2nd level was beautifully maintained & in an attractive setting. The staff were courteous, friendly and very helpful to first time visitors to Singapore.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Night safari is a must but it can get busy so try to select a non school holiday period.

Good location, friendly service, helpful staff.
Our room is large with a good view of the river.

enjoy our stay at the hotel with friendly staff, clean room, near mrt station, free guest car park and convenience to move around.
only complaint is the bath tub leaks onto the floor during bathing from cracks/joints on the tile wall.
Restaurant Tip:
The buffet at Ellenborough Market Cafe is very good with many variety of local dishes and there are many locals having lunch and dinner buffet at Ellenborough as well. We love most of the local, western and seafood dishes. The dessert variety is good. We have both lunch and dinner buffets there.

friendly, efficient check-in staff to greet you on arrival, fresh, tasty food delivered quickly from room service. the room was elegantly and comfortably furnished. finally, that same friendly service on departure. a very enjoyable place to stay in singapore.

A very nice stay yet again.

this was our third or fourth stay at the merchant court and was just as pleasant as the previous visits. the hotel location is terrific and the staff are very friendly and helpful. our room was large and very clean although the tv could do with an update very soon. internet connection was fast and reliable. no view from our window but as we had a super cheap deal from agoda we couldnt complain. food is excellent. will definitely stay here again.

Convenient location and fair price

we decided to visit singapore on the way for holidays on bali. i was quite interested in the swisshotel merchant road because of its location for our short stay during which we were going to examine as much as possible places of interest. convenient location of hotel close to underground station was helping us o get to the places we decided to visit before arrival. even heavy showers were not the blocking point for us.
in terms of disappointment i will point out availability of internet access in hotel and it's price. i consider that hotel management should review its policy as many hotels now include wifi access in the room rate which doesn't make it less competitive.
Nightlife Tip:
Hotel is located in the district with active night life.

Try local chinese on main road. Fab food and extremely reasonable.

must ask for a pool facing room. outside facing rooms either have no view or have traffic noise. classic rooms are reasonable value but need to be refurbished. nice area for access to clarke quay, boat taxis etc. breakfast and internet package is ok but if budget is tight there are plenty of alternatives in easy walking distance.

Really Nice - Great Location!

Excellent hotel - very nice amenities - but be prepared to pay for all the niceness! The internet charges are ridiculously high - Starbucks and back-packer hotels usually offer internet access "free of additional charge" but not this place. Also, we chose to opt out of the hotel's breakfast buffet (about US$25 per person) - bought snacks, water and drinks at the convenience market near the MRT exit at the Central Mall.
Restaurant Tip:
The hotel is right on Clarke Quay, so the restaurant options are seemingly endless! But be sure to venture out to other places for more local food options - the Chinatown MRT station is just one stop away from here, which will put you right in the center of a famous "Hawker's Market"

nearly faultless, but the pool was a bit small for a hotel of this size and the spa offered very little.

excellent location for nightlife with Clarke Quay just on the doorstep
