Great location! Big room!
I've stayed in Singapore many times and I always try to stay in hotels that cost less than $12o (which is not easy in Singapore). Of all the hotels I've stayed in, this one had the biggest rooms and the best location. The Esplanade Theatre, Raffles Hotel, the Art Museum and the City Hall MRT Station/Shopping Mall are all within a 5 minute walk. Boat Quay, the Asian Civilizations Museum and the Merlion are within a 10 minute walk. It's a 5-minute MRT ride (with no transfers) from CityHall MRT Station to Orchard Road's shopping. The rooms are clean and well-kept and reasonably modern. The breakfast buffet is in an ugly cafe, but the food is great (if you like a Western breakfast): eggs made to order, 5 types of fruit and about 10 kinds of bread and bakery items, 3 or 4 types of cereal, and a similar number of types of fruit juices, cheeses and yogurts, bacon and beans with your eggs, and a few Asian breakfast items as well (fried rice, congee,..) The views from the Central Business District-facing rooms are GREAT, since you look over a football/cricket pitch directly at the CBD. There a few (minor) complaints: internet is not fast; quite a bit of outside noise gets into the room (i.e. noise from other rooms; noise from other floors; noise from the hallways) and not all taxi drivers know where it is (so you need to carry a map that shows its location). There are very few rooms (20 or so, it appears), so check-in and check-out are quick and you don't have to worry about the hotel being filled with tour groups. I'd definitely stay again.

Staying In Recreation Club
The hotel is part of a club house. The reception is located on level 3 as the ground floor counter service the club members. Room is nicely decorated however upon entering the room feel of cooking food smell. Suspect the smell generated from the coffee house below or the chimney. This cauuse an unpleasant feeling when inside the room.

Closed fitness facilities was not disclosed before booking.
A key reason why I booked here was for the fitness facilities, but they were closed for renovation during my entire stay - and that was not stated anywhere when I made my booking.
