clean but small rooms, close enough to novena mrt

was very pleased with my room, despite its small size. it was very clean and modern with a good tv. the bed was the most comfortable i had slept on in weeks during my travels.
as i had arrived early (around 8am), the staff helped me to check-in early. they also stored my luggage when i had an evening flight and wanted to do some more sightseeing.
it is a 10-15 min walk to the mrt station, but you can also take one of the many buses that run on thomson road and get off 3 stops later. nonetheless, the walk is not strenuous.
for a cluser of good food stalls a few 100 metres (almost as a part of a small food court), turn left at balestier road and keep walking past a seafood restaurant. good desserts and chilli frog!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
to get to the ticket stand for the tourist hop-on hop-off bus at suntec city, take the mrt to dhoby ghat station, and then change to the circle line for esplande station. suntec is above esplande.

Extremely Cramped Rooms, No Sunlight/Windows

You could easily hear people walking in the alley which could get noisy at times. As about the free internet - the wifi would not work and we had to plug in the cable. In addition, you would need to go get a new userid/password everyday, which made little sense and was rather inconvenient. We expected the hotel to be a little off the MRT line so no complaints about that. In terms of cleanliness, it was satisfactory though the towels could have been better. Again the bathroom/toilet are ridiculously cramped. Not going back to this one.

more "luxury hostel" than "hotel"

Singapore is getting so expensive that I tried this alternative in May 2011. The disappointment, as I expected, was room size and layout. This is run like a hotel, but the room is more like a luxury hostel, or even a dorm room. Quite literally there is room for a queen size bed and not much else. No where to set your luggage. No true desk, just two small shelves, about 30 cm deep, for a hot pot and telephone. Under one of the shelves is a place where you can hang a few shirts. The attached bathroom is a little tiny square area; it has a shower, but the shower is not separated from the rest of the bathroom, so everything in the bathroom--floor, walls, and all--gets wet when you take a shower. None of this makes the place bad--in a region where people are many and land few, extremely efficient use of space are normal. But for people coming from outside the region, this would be a very tough sell as a "hotel room".
What was downright bad was that there was no proper window. Yes, part of the wall was glass, but it opened onto a sort of ventilation shaft; even by day there was only dim gray light in the shaft. On top of that, the ventilation system does not seem to be fully under the control of the room's occupant. There is a wall mounted thermostat, and there are controls, but it takes an awfully long time for conditions in the room to respond to changes in the setting. When I called to the front desk about this I was told, "OK. I have reset it so that you will have full control over your air-conditioner", but I didn't notice much difference.
This is a fine place to stay if you value price, cleanliness, and a professional staff. It even has a very nice swimming pool up above the congestion and claustrophobia of the street on the seventh floor. But if you value the comfort of a spacious room, where you can set your bags, set up your computer, and a full bathroom--or a window--then this place will disappoint.

Small room, a bit smelly, but clean

we stayed at value thomson hotel singapore for 2 nights, the room was ok and clean, but it's really small, and first time we came in, it was really smelly, and the bathroom was super small.
the only reason we stayed in this hotel was for the value of money. this hotel was a bit far from mrt station (novena station).
Restaurant Tip:
Look for wee nam kee Hainanese chicken rice, it is located near novena MRT station (opposite). There's a shop selling tausa pie and red bean pie in frotn of the Hotel which is quite good to try.

Affordable hotel but not very comfortable.
The best feature of this hotel was it's price.

The first thing i noticed about this hotel was that the walls were very thin as i could hear the television from the room next door. The hallways smelled liked smoke. I also found some bugs in my bed and along the furniture.

We stayed in this hotel for 3d/2n. We were accommodated earlier than the usual check-in time. The staff were very friendly. The room is quite small and we didn't like the air freshener they used. They allow safekeeping of your baggage should you need to check-out early. Our kids also enjoyed the swimming pool for relaxation.
