Fort Canning Lodge:Great Location, Excellent Value Guest Rating: 4.8

I would gladly stay at the Fort Canning Lodge for every Singapore visit! If your idea of a hotel is where you can live like royalty and have your every whim catered to, the FCL is not for you. But if you're a seasoned traveller who requires a clean, well-managed hotel for not too many dollars then the FCL is perfect. This is the hotel for those who have to pay for their stay themselves and want to be practical, yet want a very good level of service and amenities. My room (junior suite on the 12th floor) was decent-sized, had a great bathroom, came with a room safe with electronic keypad, and had a decent refrigerator and TV. Tap water is safe to drink. Security is good with magnetic keycard access to rooms and elevators. There's a fair-sized swimming pool on the 3rd floor that's open until 9pm, great for relaxing those tired muscles after a hot day out walking. The restaurant offers a hearty buffet breakfast, and there are internet booths at the lobby. Staff is helpful and well-trained and requests for extra pillows and towels and such are met in minutes. The building itself is not very new nor cutting edge in architecture, but I didn't need that anyway, but maintenance and upgrading is good. I loved the view out my window, Fort Canning hill with the towers of the central business district out beyond. Location is fantastic. It's at the very start of Orchard Road, with Little India to the north, Kampong Glam to the east, Marina to the south east, and the River and Chinatown to the south. It's of course situated in the beautiful colonial district, with the terrific National Museum and Museum of Art just a few minutes walk away. The all-important Dhoby Ghaut station is a quick walk through the Park Mall beside the hotel, and when the new Circle Line is completed, this will be the most strategic of Singapore's stations, with all four lines passing through it. You can be in just about any place in Singapore in a few minutes, from the hotel's central location.

Terrific Location: just a few minutes walk away from Singapore's biggest and biggest MRT station, Dhoby Ghaut. It's central to all the different districts in the city.

I can't think of any really; the hotel is not luxurious or prestigious, but that's why I chose it in the first place. It's really for the smart, practical traveler.

• Hotel Feature Tip : To get to Orchard Road or Dhoby Ghaut station, the quickest way is to cut through the Park Mall carpark, which is just a few steps away from the hotel lobby. Take the elevator to the 1st floor and cross the main road to the station located at the small park in front of the mall. Otherwise, you can take the pleasant walk down the hill, which takes some 10 minutes longer in the tropical heat. I also recommend that first-time visitors make detailed custom maps of all the places they want to visit, using streetdirectory.com. and the "print screen" button on their keyboard There are 6 levels of zoom to choose from, plus satellite photos of the same map area you're looking at. Standard tourist maps may lack the detail you want or only contain the typical tourist areas only. I also recommend that visitors familiarize themselves with the MRT system beforehand and plan their itenerary accordingly. Get an EZ-Link card (good for trains and buses) if staying more than a day or two.

Clean Family-Oriented Hotel Guest Rating: 4.7

I find this hotel a good family-oriented hotel. The hotel is a Christian hotel and it is a good appeal for family travelers like us. I liked the location since it is away from the main street but is walking distance to Orchard and Dhoby Ghaut Train Station. There are nearby shops like Carrefour and Parkmall. The staff are all friendly. They even gave us an adjoining room when I forgot to request since I booked for 2 rooms. I like it. It's a great value for money. I will definitely stay there again.

we had a pleasant stay in this hotel, the hotel manager is very accomodating and friendly. The hotel food and room contidion are just ok. Hotel staff are also ok. The only problem with this hotel is the location. We also encounter a little problem with the name of the hotel. Because our taxi driver brought us to YMCA instead to YWCA.

The YWCA Fort Canning Lodge is one of the best 3 star hotels I have stayed in. The rooms are average size but comfortable enough and clean. The hotel surroundings are well kept, and the hotel staff is also very friendly and helpful. They cater to the needs of the guests. Though there is a bit of a walk from the hotel to the subway station and Orchard road, it is still very much accessible. Overall, I would strongly recommend this hotel to my friends, especially if they would like to spend less on the hotels, and have more money on shopping.

It was a surprise to my family and I that this under rated hotel offered the amenities of a 4 star hotel. The rooms are not so big but are clean. The coffee shop offers good food, especially for breakfast.

The bathroom in the family room leaked from the shower enclosure to the area of the water closet. Other than that room was very comfortable.

• Hotel Feature Tip : Hotel is close to the subway station and Orchard road. As you go out of the hotel, you walk a few yards to the car park of Park Mall, cross the street to go to the subway station or Orchard road. Quite accessible to everything you want to go to.

Introduce convenience hotel in Singapore Guest Rating: 4.7

It was my first time to visit Singapore. I had very short time to prepare myself including hotel reservation. I have been very fortunate to get information to choose the hotel and make reservation via agoda.com. I was lucky to reserve the YWCA Fort Canning Lodge with a nice discount. The hotel is located in the very convenient area, near the subway station (MRT), near big shopping malls such as Park Mall, Sigapuru Plaza, ect. We can take the subway to Orchard, the place having a lot of shopping department stores. My Singaporean friends told me that they now know a very convenient hotel to introduce to their friends who will visit Singapore.

The YWCA Fort Canning Lodge is clean, very good service, near MRT (subway) station, and near museum.

The water in the bathroom was not warm enough.

Would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone. Pool on 3rd floor a big bonus. Clean, friendly, big room, very central. It had everything. Close to MRT so would suggest you buy a tourist 1 or 2 day pass. Breakfast was hearty and set us up for the day!

Central location, two minutes from MRT. Very clean hotel, good size bedrooms, A/C, fridge, kettle and safe are a bonus. Staff very friendly. Breakfast is hearty – a mixture of Asian and western.

Only one small negative – A/C is a bit noisy.

• Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go on night safari but get there on time ie 7pm at latest. We spent 3 hours there and had to rush away – could have stayed longer.

The Fort Canning Lodge was all they said it would be. Very simple, clean, quiet room with an in house cafe and a simple menu of various types of food. From there we were able to go to the zoo, some shopping and walking, take in a bit of the history of the area by climbing Fort Canning Hill just across the street. Singapore was a nice introduction to Southeast Asia. We found it was very modern, clean, and had a great deal to offer the curious tourist.

One of the best prices in town for a family of three, very clean,quiet, near the MRT and some good eating places.

The front desk staff could have been a little more helpful in telling us about places we could walk to easily from the hotel.

• Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It would have been nice to know that if we had gotten off the MRT at the station after the City Hall station we would have been within walking distance to the Fort Canning Lodge. We eventually found out about this, but not until we had hired a taxi to take us from the City Hall stop to the Lodge. Seems like the proper MRT stop could have been provided on the hotel website.

Value for Money Guest Rating: 4.2

This is the first time I stay at the Fort Canning Lodge, and frankly speaking, I did not expect much. Anyway, I'm impressed of its location, hotel condition, and the friendliness of the hotel staff. The variety and quality of breakfast buffet offered is on par with the other hotels with higher room rates. The only drawback is that I wish the hotel also has a gym facility.
