Great location - quiet and simple to get, but stil not far from interest places - 5 min. walk from metro station and same distance from nightlife hanging area. Lots of restaurants and caffes just outside on the Main Street, and basically everywhere.
Friendly English speaking staff and helpful too with knowledge about local sightseeing & interest spots.
Great value for money. Only dislike is the double beds on shared rooms.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Travel to Mount Acha - easy level hike (about 3 hours round trip) and the best 360 degrees view from several peaks on the city. Note that if you go while / after snow fall - ice walking attachments for your shoes are highly recommended... (Can be purchased anywhere for few bucks).
20 min. walk to start point from Achasan station on line 5.

Just like home...or better.

I say this is better than home because I live in a comparatively older building; this place was all and more I could ask for. Granted it wasn't very full at the time, so if you're looking to meet tons of other people the original Hongdae Pencil 1 Guesthouse is a good backpacker-style hostel.
Will defo live here or at the other Pencil Hostels again if I'm not couchsurfing.
On a side note, I found that Agoda may not be passing on messages/special requests typed in during the booking to the hostels, or it got lost in the process. In any case, not the fault of the staff if you were expecting them to know your check-in time or other needs. Hope Agoda can improve in this aspect.
Hotel Feature Tip:
There are limited drying racks for your laundry, I actually was on the hunt in Hongdae for laundromats but found the hostel facilities to be more than sufficient. Towels are Korean-sized, which I got used to in no time.

After printing a google map, me and my friend had no trouble finding the hostel, although you do need to keep an eye out for the logo. The hostel is 5 minutes walk from the hongik univ station so the location is great. The Hongdae area has some of the best nightlife in Seoul. The girls who gave us our key were friendly and very helpful, giving us a map and showing us where all the restaurants were in the area. The room was a fine size and the shower had good pressure and temperature... obviously one of the most important parts of your stay! Hostel Hongdae is a good value stay, my only complaint would be the bedding is a little sparse for the winter.

Very accesible and great service!

What i like about this hotel is very accessible to the subway, clean and secured. Housekeepers are very nice.
Nightlife Tip:
This hotel is near the hongdae university with alot of bars on the other side of the road.
