Itaewon
The main draw for Seoul’s ex-pat community, Itaewon remains more of a niche nightlife area for Koreans interested in exploring a more international scene.
The area’s major landmark is the iconic Hamilton Hotel near Itaewon subway station. The main street sloping west downhill is lined with clothing stalls, tailors, western pool bars and restaurants. Besides the Western fare, there are also a number of delicious Indian restaurants in the area.
Due to its proximity to the nearby United States Army Garrison Yongsan, a large number of American military are found here in the evenings and weekends. It is not unusual to see uniformed Military Police enforcing the curfew. The area can get very lively on Friday and Saturday nights, with a colorful mix of American soldiers, English teachers, tourists and Korean locals keen on meeting foreigners.
Itaewon is served by Seoul Subway Line 6 via Itaewon, Noksapyeong and Hanganjin stations. Visitors can reach Downtown Seoul is just ten minutes by taxi.
