Had the place nearly to ourselves

while the service was impeccable since we were nearly the only guests at the hotel, it's hard to complain. the manager was surprised when we arrived as we had booked the hotel just 3+ hours prior and they had not yet received confirmation from agoda. immediately he asked if we would be dining at the restaurant that evening as this determined whether he kept the cook on the clock. we were able to order off menu though this was limited due to not having many guests. since we were unaware of how far bentota/hikka were when we booked, we ended up staying at the hotel and enjoying the pool that evening. thankfully they had a small bar and they waited on us hand over foot as we warded off the heat and mosquitos by staying in the pool. the rooms were spacious, but felt more like staying in an old, musty, antique-y mansion. the long curtains held dust and the ac worked minimally. wifi only worked slowly in the common areas and we were hard pressed to purchase sarongs from the woman who offered them in the lobby. however, we thoroughly enjoyed the service and hospitality.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Need to have driver or car at your disposal as Bentota was nearly 30 mins North and Hikka was 30 mins South.

a palace-like hotel :)

At first I didn't know that a foreign lady was owning this hotel, so I had no idea who she was when the owner greeted us. She was warm and nice. The hotel was quiet and had a wonderful garden. The food was very tasty, and I was greatly satisfied with them :) The hotel and the room was very clean and I really had a nice time traveling with my mother. However, the location wasn't very near to the places we went for experiencing boat safari or Bentota beach or Gaulle, but other than that, it was very nice.

Nice hotel but some small issues

Our stay at this hotel got off to a bad start but got better later.
We arrived late on the first day of our booking as we were driving down from the hill country. We had called the front desk hours earlier to let them know we would be late and that our room should be prepared.
In spite of this, when we checked in, the room was musty, it had not been cleaned, The AC wasnt working, and the bathroom was all wet and filthy.
We made a lot of noise and managed to get our room shifted.
The next morning were informed that breakfast was not included with our room even though it was included as per our booking with Agoda.
The owner+manager, A swiss lady who lives on the premises reluctantly comped our breakfasts, like she was doing us a favor.
Other than these issues, our stay was great. the service was quick, efficient and polite. the rooms were well appointed and the pool was clean and well maintained.
On the whole, I would recommend this hotel for a vacation/honeeymoon as it has a relaxed feel.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
make sure you visit the turtle hatchery in Kosgoda (15 mins by car to the north) and do take the boat cruise in the Madu Ganga Lagoon at balatpitiya (20 mins to the south).
the beaches in the area are gravelly and the water is not clear but muddy. for white sand beaches with clear water, You will need to head southwards to Galle and beyond to Unnawatuna.
