Ok for a few days

Our stay here was ok. The hotel itself on approach looks lovely. But it feels like being in a big resort where at other hotels of a similar size you still feel you get privacy. The room service was very slow (had to call and ask where it was and when it arrived the order was wrong). On check out we weren't asked how we found our stay and we were told we owed a night which we had already paid for. There was apparently no record of the payment, luckily I still had my copy of the receipt but no apology was offered. Our car to the airport was also over 20 minutes late and again no apology was offered and we had to ask for reception to call and check where it was as when we asked the response was "don't know". Very unhelpful. There are a lot of other hotels on offer along the same strip so imagine you'd get better value for money elsewhere. If in Bentota you must take a boat trip down the river and through the mangroves- a huge highlight. The gentleman there was so informative and have us a tour of the local temple, he was brilliant and really made our stay in Bentota memorable.

Stay there after the renovations

Make sure you stay in this hotel AFTER the renovations, we found because there was a great deal at that time. Nothing is functioning properly...
Hotel Feature Tip:
Do not turn off the AC!! The floor will become completely soaked in 1 h!!

Great Location
Amazing clean roon, amazing service and nice view by beach.

Stay was very comforatable, Few things I like to get improved in TAJ is:
1. Please don't charge internet. This is a basic need now a days and not a luxary to be charged for.
2. Improve food.
3. and please intimate customers that hotel is under rennovation and guest should be informed. I feel real bad when I couldn't use swimming pool and other facility.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Stay in room, enjoy the view and all the facitlity in room. Go by beach, read book. Nothing can relax you more that that. good time for yourself along along side of waves. beach is all personal, no one for you to disturb

Great hotel with great rooms

We got really very warm and different welcome at the entry - fresh flower garland, cold napkin, welcome drink etc. The room was very nice, everything was of great quality and nicely placed, only thing it was not really giving full sea view. However many other pros were there to offset that part. We also had the experience of jacuzzi, it was super - everything was very well maintained. Still construction is going on in some of the part, so it was making some problem in moving around, otherwise all well. Last but not least, great food - being vegetarian, we got plenty of choice.

this is a quality brand, and when renovation is completed it should be very pleasant. so there was only the beach and spa available plus one small restaurant.

Falls short of Taj quality

I am from India and work in Colombo and stayed at the property with my family during the weekend. We got a good last minute deal through Agoda, which was value for money. I have been to lot of five star resorts in Malaysia, Mauritius, Zanzibar and India and my first impression is that the Vivanta property at Bentota falls short of the quality expectations from Taj group.
Having said that, the resort is currently undergoing major renovation, and I hope lot of shortcomings will be taken care post the renovation. The staff told me that the swimming pool will re-open by December and the renovation will be complete by March 2013.
I am glad that the front desk staff had informed me about pool closure and renovations at the time of booking itself, so the family was prepared for that. When we arrived, the staff gave us warm welcome, and apologised for any possible disruptions that we could face during the stay. The room was comfortable, however I feel the old TV should be replaced. We had dinner and breakfast at 'The Palms' and the food is very good for Indian taste. The beach is clean and well maintained.
The adventure/recreation options are limited, so most of time we ended up spending idling at the beach .
Hotel Feature Tip:
The pool will reopen only by December, and renovation will continue till March as per company staff.

we stayed one night while the hotel is being refurbished. they had only 24 rooms in service on their extensive property. though the renovations and unkempt gardens were an eyesore, the service staff was excellent and our room was located just 50 yards from the beach. the hotel has a very good beach location as there is a small cove so the sea is not very rough. the rooms are large with comfy beds and the food was excellent.
i am sure once the renovation is done it will be the top hotel in this location.

The best feature of the hotel was the location with a garden and beach view. The staff was very caring and welcoming

We enjoyed our stay at Bentota..Shall recommend it to everyone who wants to visit Bentota.
Shopping Tip:
House of fashoin is quite reasonable compared to odel, which is a little above standards for some brands..

nothing much to see nearby,restaurant staff very friendly and helpful but quality of food very poor compared to other hotels of this price.little choice and high priced,needs much improvement vas guests have to rely on food at hotel,nothing else nearby.

lovely beach,nice and friendly staff but you may be disappointed in food available and high comparative prices to other hotels in sri lanka
per person for the quality of food available is very highly priced and may be charged due to no other outlets nearby and one being forced to use the hotel food outlets.would not recommend more than a 2 days stay at this location
