we enjoyed the stay very much with a personalised butler service and executive privilidges which included free food and drinks at the executive lounge. The room was very comfortable and it had beautiful views of the pool,river and city. The finger foods at the lounge were not very fresh and we ended up getting food poisoning. I would advice people to avoid eating poulty products at the lounge. Having said this, there are a number of excellent restaurants on the premises (around 11 or 12) which we enjoyed, especially the nuga gama restaurant where we experienced the true sri lankan village food/atmosphere/music.

It was a short but comfortable stay. However with this hotel there is always the anxiety whether you are going to get one of the old rooms which is really not worth the money.

A good experience

From check in to check out the staff were friendly helpful and courteous. The room was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. The public area of the hotel were well maintained, clean and a pleasure to walk through.
For us the only downside was the fact that if you do not like to eat in your hotel, there is not a lot in the way of eateries in the vicinity.
We only spent 2 nights there, but all-in-all we were very happy. We would stay there again and recommend to friends.
As an aside I remember the Cinnamon Grand as the Lanka Oberoi, one of Colombo's top hotels of the 70's and 80's. That it has retained its status says something for the hotel.

All that you would expect
The lobby serves as a nice focal point during the stay. It is easy to entertain clients as well as just relax and work

The stay was fantastic. The pool, grounds, and gym are superb. I would note that the rooms in the old tower are a tiny bit dated as far as design is concerned but they are clean, cozy, and well kept. It is probably more a matter of personal preference if you prefer lighter more modern room design (new section), or darker, more cozy and moody room design (old tower).
