great hotel with a lovely view of the sea

our booking was for the classic wing but we were upgraded to the regency wing.the check in was very smooth.the service was prompt.the unpleasant thing was the presence of ants in the room.they should get the hotel fumigated routinely in order to maintain the standards.
Shopping Tip:
try the lakhpahana for srilankan stuff as it is the cheapest.lakhshala is very expensive.also do try the food at the sea side...the nanas.also the food in the majestic city mall was pretty good for a bargain.

enjoyable for first couple of days of our holiday. a good location and great place to enjoy a beer watching the sunset over the beach with a lion beer. i recommend the seafood bbq buffet they have occasionally. breakfast is one of the best in sl with a wide range of options.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Go and see Ajith in the tourist office at the Fort Station to organise a tour round the island - he is brilliant

Good Hotel good quality service

Good position, the quality of the room doesn't respect the price but
you can enjoy the swimming pool and all the good service.
The food is very good and the breakfast buffet is useful especially after a long travel in sri lanka eating only local food

location was right on the beach and close to restaurants

We really enjoyed our stay, staff were very friendly, rooms modern and clean, breakfast could be improved, cooked food was always cold. Housekeeping staff need to be quieter outside rooms, especially when :do not disturb" sign is on

Great hotel, but needs some refurbishment;

Great hotel, with lots of notable visitors over its lifetime (there is a marble list on the reception wall).
Room great with a fabulous view ofer the Indian oceon.
The one problem was the dinner; expensive and limited choice.
Restaurant Tip:
don't have dinner in the restaurant; there is a very good Italian restaurant at Cinnamon Plaza, less than 200 m from the hotel.

Fantastic Colonial Hotel

although we only stayed one night, this hotel was great. the staff were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed a lovely night on in the verandah restaurant overlooking the sea.
the only negative was the driver we booked to take us to the airport the next morning; he seemed to try a shortcut when leaving colombo and got lost, and was asking everyone for directions, making us thnk we were going to miss our flight!
but overall, the hotel was lovely.
Restaurant Tip:
Eat on the verandah, good service and nice food makes for a very pleasant evening

The management is very poor, the 24hour restaurant is not 24 hours as in the information they only provide sandwich and some juice packets. The prices of the transport depends on the driver not the distance or any place.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Be careful of your belongings and the mini bar they charge you for things you don't take or use. Using the hotel transportation please check before you leave as the prices depend on the driver.
