Awesome colonial hotel, beautiful old rooms
Original features, staff, location
7.7
we were put in a corner suite that overlooked galle face and the ocean. beautiful old colonial hotel that is looking very tired and probably overdue a renovation, but looking at he new wing that would lose its character.
sunset from the terrace is fantastic and should not be missed.
Restaurant Tip:
Inn on the green is part of the hotel and does nice cheap food.

1).I have dissapointed at the very first day. Every one providing the free WIFI access but Galleface hotel said they charged Rs.10 per minitte which is un-reasonable.
2). When I ordered the dinner ( Spicy chiken sandwich) it came without ketchup and after complaing to serve the ketchup and took another 30 minutes.

Awesome setting, charming hotel
Great location, stylish and charming
8
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Galle Face Hotel. It is perfectly located, offers nice views, has a charming interior and provides the perfect setting for a drink with the waves crashing in the background. Staff were attentive and friendly, despite other reviews to the contrary. Only downsides were that the food was average and, despite its charm, we felt the hotel was overpriced, but that has been our experience throughout Sri Lanka. Don't let these drawbacks dissuade you from enjoying a stay at a meorable hotel.

Great location but old rooms
6.3
A very grand hotel from the outside with an amazing location by the Galle Face, particularly at weekends when people are out socializing and flying kites. Unfortunately the rooms don't live up to the rest of the hotel - clean and functional, but very, very basic.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed.
2
I arrived late at night, so I asked the transport. When I checked in, the staff at the reception was not so polite. The bellboy guided me to the room , and a few minute later someone knocked the door. I opened the door a little, the guy wearing the uniform written " security" tried to enter my room. I shouted to him not to enter, so he could not. But I was very scared at that time. I called the reception, but he did nothing. Next day I made a complaint about the hotel security, but they just said the guy didn't work at the hotel. But I think the guy knew someone would come alone. Because the guy was used to do so. The security was terrible and the people at the hotel had poor support. I recommend for women not stay at this hotel! Very dangerous.

Abolute decadence, interesting to experience how life was back in the colonial days. The newly renovated rooms are exquisite and accommodate all the luxuries including marble bathrooms, but standard rooms are rather small.
Breakfast buffet is to die for, and you must experience the high tea in the afternoon.
Special compliments go to Sri lankas number one cocktail maker, who ensures the finest of drinks are served at the bar near the pool. Checkers restaurant is ideal, eating seafood whilst feeling the mist of sea spray on your face. Perfect location where you can enjoy an evening stroll up the promo nard along the water.
Once in a lifetime experience to go back in time and experience a little living history
