Beautiful hotel on the waterfront
Friendly staff, good location

My friend and i only stayed one night but the staff were really lovely, our room was clean and spacious (we stayed in the new wing in a refurbished room) and the hotel is right on the water with a nice balcony and courtyard area. It's only a 5 minute cab ride to the Colombo Fort Railway Station as well.

the location was great, the room was ok. however not sure about the reception staff. a friend of mine tried to call a couple of times and they kept on saying i wasnt staying there, it even took a few more tries to get through once he had the room number.

This hotel is epic! You must not miss. Real colonial, great rooms, nice food, excellent service. Book ahead for the high tea!
Travel tip:
Book ahead for high tea at 16:00. Walk down Galle Face Green at night for lovely kites, food and relaxation.

Run down grand hotel in a spectacular location

Paid extra for a Classic Wing Suite, as it promised "ocean view" and "breathtaking view of the Indian Ocean". Upon check in, we were put in a first floor suite overlooking the busy main road , with loud traffic noise and no view (other than the buildings across the road and four lanes of traffic). After complaining and having to argue we had paid for an ocean view, after some delay we were moved to a room with magnificent ocean views. Overall, this is a classic old hotel in a older full location, staff are good but it is run down nd not enought care is being taken. Room was dirty. A particular irritation was that promised Wifi dint work in the room, and we had to go to lobby areas or sit on the stairs to access it,it constantly cut out, and then we were billed $150 for this unreliable and intermittent use. In so wAys, his wa a as indicator of the standards of the hotel.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Don't use their wifi. It's unreliable and exorbitant.

Classy hotel next to large park by the sea

I actually enjoyed walking around the hotel as much as I enjoyed Colombo itself. The hotel is old and has wisely chosen to keep the delightful style of the 19th century. The room is huge and very nice, including the bathroom. The only surprise was that they actually charge for wifi usage.

Great location but where and tear is showing

Classic wing has not been renovated and there is a smell of toilet in the rooms and hallways.Except for the airport transfer don't use the travel services they are a scam.The Spa is a bit rundown and it's not relaxing having staff waiting for a tip while you dress.

A hotel that breathes history

After having stayed one night in the old wing, which is a real fungus paradise, we decided to pay extra for an upgrade to the refurbished wing of Galle Face Hotel. A good decision, as this part of the hotel is really enjoyable and clean, in contrast to the old wing. The setting of this historical place in Colombo is wonderful, the bar is probably the best place to be for a cocktail, and the food very good. Staff should be much better organized, as it takes ages to get something done...

Galle Face Hotel ;they said “Yesterday’s charm & Tomorrow ‘s comfort”. It’s a memorable one in overview. But I kept any details of hotel need to revamp. I unexpected with this 5-stars hotel especially the classic wing; The widely old room which amenity is going on basis, no mini bar, empty refrigerator, no shoes shelf, toilet inconsistent and no welcome drink also . On the other hand this big room was great with panoramic view of Galle Face Green beside the ocean & fresh air. Anyway I cannot relax stayed cause of the beating sound from wedding parties during couple of nights. This is over priced for get values! However all the staffs of every outlet restaurants are extend me a warm welcome and a pleasant.

Hotel breathes history-old wing breathes fungi!

We stayed one night in the old wing of Galle Face Hotel, a colonial building breathing history. Wonderful beach bar, ideal for a rest after Colombo shopping or sightseeing. Very good food and drinks. Great swimming pool though salty water. Unfortunately the rooms are below acceptability for the standards of the place. Absolutely filthy, and a fungus paradise! Avoid to sleep there, and choose the refurbished wing, even though more expensive! Another minus is the really slow, disorganized service.

As this was the first hotel we stayed in on our first visit to Sri Lanka it will remain as a special memory - spacious rooms, the sound of the surf as we lay by the pool, champagne on the balcony, a walk on the Galle Face Green, friendly and efficient staff, extensive buffet breakfast.
