Great location but subpar room

i booked a room in the standard wing, found it to be in rough shape. it smelled musty and the ceiling and walls were stained. i would recommend avoiding the old wing and booking in the regency wing if you are interested in this hotel. as far as facilities goes, there's a great gym, breakfast is fantastic, and you can't beat the view of the ocean.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Book in the Regency wing. It's worth the extra cost.

Old-style grand hotel with lots of style

this is a lovely old hotel and they have done a great job with the refit keeping many of the original features. staff was very helpful and accommodating. the breakfast that comes with the room is absolutely fantastic. only down side is that you have to pay for the wifi, but it's a small inconvenience compared to the hotel stay.

I arrived and I was told, they uprated me to a beter room; It took more than an hour to get the room , and when I arrived there, the room was like a mouse-box; After complaining, finally I had a nive room, old, but clean, big and worth a 4-5 star hotel. Very nice pool, with salt.

Old world charm and helpful staff

The iconic hotel still maintains its charm. I stayed in the older part of the hotel and despite the bathroom being a bit worn it was spacious, room was spare and original wood floors not quiet but that is part of the history of the place. Unfortunately, this meant that I could also hear my neighbours very clearly next door. But I opted for quirky as opposed to cushy since I stayed only one night. All staff were talkative, helpful and friendly. I did not have time to do the spa but it looked new, lovely and reasonably priced.

my husband and i really enjoyed our stay at the galle face hotel. we will stay there again if we can get a reasonable rate. the original price was something like . we got a discount on agoda. the food was also really good. the breakfast was delicious as was the food we ordered up from room service. try the pasta con funghi!!! the view is also very nice. i prefer the old side to the 'newer' side.

It is Creaky old hotel.not for buisness men.
The new wing is good as I went to eat there and nobody was at the restaurant.

This was a hotel where the British occupation forces and the tea planters visited. Since then this hotel is very very old and has not been renovated .I could not sleep asthe people upstairs were walking at night and the creaky noise.kept me awake.
they wrere repairing the rooms in the night...I could not belive it. I complained and the moved me to another room...again the same problems.
I would not recomend this hotel to anyone or go there again.

Nice classic hotel located at seaside good for tourists, but may not be good for business travelers. Travel desk people don't work promptly and ask to pay cash for car hire rather than to charge to the room account.

great location but rooms and service are not good

we stayed for 4 nights and will not return there. outside is beautiful . so many wedding organised there. rooms are very old without any deco to make it antique. toilets are old, just the minimum to be used. bad smell in the room. water leaks from ceiling. so old tv which function just sometimes. room on the road side are very noisy with discoteque on ground floor very late and car syrene early morning. could not sleep well. no proper lobby .
