Galle Face is an experience in itself Guest Rating: 4.8

The free breakfast is FANTASTIC and you can start with breakfast, have some coffee and watch the yardsman shoot at crows with his slingshot, and then eat lunch. The fish curry is excellent. The swimming pool is almost level with the ocean and is filled with the purest water. The hotel is within the security zone and soldiers with machine guns are posted everywhere including above the pool. The shops are high end but just outside the front are auto-rickshaws that can be hired for the entire day. Just tell them what you are after and they will run you all over the city. They also have connections with tour operators who will hire a driver and good car to drive you anywhere for about US $125.00/day.

There is a feeling inside this ancient hotel that you will seldom find elsewhere.

The room was wonderful and i could have only stayed here because of the deal offered through Agoda. But the reduced cost was for a room next to the Wedding Halls and there was lots of noise until 1 am. This is only on Saturday and Sundays.

The staff noticed on check-in that it was my daughter-in-law's birthday, although no comment was made. A cake was delivered to their room that night by an obviously delighted waiter.
