My stay was most comfortable and enjoyable. The staff, especially Amila, the General Manager, and Sandun, went out of their way to ensure my stay was comfortable. Although the villa is near a main road, the villas are most peaceful with only the sounds of birds and chipmunks outside the windows. The beach is only a short walk away where you will find a range of good restaurants.

clean rooms- warning not in colombo overpriced.
Clean, decent western style breakfast, big rooms, close to the beach and train station.

firstly it is not in colombo, look up mt lavinia for prices relevant to the area.
it is 30mins in light traffic, 1-1.5 hours in heavy traffic so keep that in mind if you are arriving late into colombo or arriving during peak hour.
the home stay is nice and clean, there is no laundry which at first surprised us but then learned that few guesthouses have one.
the ground floor room is nice if you dot want to walk your luggage upstairs but you hear all the merriment at the breakfast table or guests checking in late.
Hotel Feature Tip:
When you arrive at the airport, be prepared with the address and take the time to ask around for the best taxi price.

very close to main road but really nice and quiet, not far from beach but away from train lines. the beach hotels would be really noisy there are alot of trains. rooms clean and breakfast standard eggs tea toast etc.
Restaurant Tip:
Mt Lavinia hotel has awesome food and amazing views and not too expensive in our opinion. Really nice tamarind margharitas! Get a metered tuktuk there will cost about rupees. When you go home walk out the gates for a tuktuk the hotel car costs rupees.

after a couple of days we took additional night with this hotel. iz is about 200m from very nice beach. the only thing we did not like was very slow internet (dial-up speed).
Restaurant Tip:
If you go to the beach, turn left and find La Voile Blanche - good restaurant.

Great little place! Nice and clean rooms.
Walking distance or short tuk tuk to the best restaurants (don't bother going into Colombo for dinner the food is in mount livinia). Just walk out the door and about 5 minutes from a beautiful beach and sunset :)
Breakfast freshly cooked when you wake up was delicious with yummy fresh icy juice! A touch overpriced maybe?
Restaurant Tip:
Must eat at la ramblas 15 minutes walk away.... Best calamari you will eat in your life!!!
Walk out the back to the beach for sunset... Amazing!!!

This hotel iffered me peacefulness in hectic Colombo. Breakfast was delicious, room was clan and cute, bathroom amazing for this price. And the location was great - 200 m from beach area. The only remark I had was internet which was extremly slow (dial-up speed).
Restaurant Tip:
If you get hungry, take a walk to the beach. After, turn left and find restaurant called La Voile Blanche - great food and fast wifi.

The guest house is hard to find but is a nice place to stay in an area with not alot to see. The place has wifi throughout with large communal areas and bedrooms to match. The staff are friendly and will help arrange drivers and tours. Although not much choice for breakfast you get plenty. Dont forget your mosquito spray as we got bitten a few times during breakfast.
