Not so near to the Airport

Well I was told that the hotel was under ten minutes to get to the airport.
On check in it took me twenty minutes by the time I had checked in to walk to my bungalow.
On checking out it was a five minute walk to the reception, ten minutes to check out and a good twelve minute drive to the airport
So I could not recommend this complex which was more like a country club to anyone who needs to be close to the airport.
The dinner buffet was quite disgusting. Purely Asian menu, and no good for my taste.
Being an hotelier I always try to give a fair report for the good of the hotel.

The Tamarind Tree Hotel its located very near the Colombo airport, but its seems miles away.
Sorounded by a garden and large trees, all the rooms are actually small houses ( living room/bedroom/bathroom) who gives the sensation of privacy.
The pool its great, and the building where its the restaurant and public areas are small but with a touch of european style combine with a sri lankan taste.
This hotel its a good option if you a have a flight and do not want any problems with the traffic in Colombo. Its just 5 minutes from the aiport

Schöner Park aber das war es auch schon....

Das Einchecken hat über eine halbe Stunde gedauert (5 Angestellte an der Reception, keine anderen Gäste ausser uns). Das Personal war desinteressiert, das Restaurantpersonal unaufmerksam. Man merkt, dass das Hotel von seiner Lage nah am Flughafen lebt und die meisten Gäste entweder die erste oder letzte Nacht ihres Aufenthaltes hier verbringen. Die Zimmer rochen stark nach Naphtalin.
Eine schöne Sache zum Schluss: in der Nacht ist der Hotelpark voll mit Glühwürmchen!

Little surprise near the airport

This was our first hotel in Sri Lanka because it is only 5 mins from the airport - important when you arrive in the middle of the night!
It is in an semi-industrial area, but quite serene once you enter the gardens which are well maintained, as is the pool. They are planted with labelled trees. The dining area [breakfast only] was adequate but not luxurious. Other common areas quite limited. Our room was rather bare, but spacious and private, with a verandah. No wi-fi in the room.
Hotel Feature Tip:
location saves a lot of time travelling to/from the airport in Colombo's appalling traffic.
