Convenient stay but problems with billing - BEWARE
The pool was nice. The food in the restaurant was good. It's very close to the airport

Although I booked a double room my voucher said the room was for 1 adult and we were charged $20 for an extra bed. There was no extra bed as the room had a double bed in it. This was very annoying. Then when we got home I saw that the hotel had charged me twice for this room. It has taken 6 weeks to get them to agree to refund my money. Too much hassle to bother staying there again.

This is a superb hotel if you are looking for a restful and secluded stay with attentive staff and fine dining. Very close to the airport. Run by the Taj hotels ad resorts. Great swimming pool. But if you are looking for action, this hotel is not for you. It is not near shops, attractions and so on. The Agoda deal included breakfast but I was charged for breakfast each day and didn't realise until after I'd left Sri Lanka.

Our flight was 2 hours late, which got us into the hotel at 2:30am. They staff was there, super friendly and helpful and the very tired kids and us parents were happy to be in a bed within 10 minutes of arrival! The breakfast was great, the kids still think it was one of the best from our trip. Really only a place to stay if you depart/arrive in the middle of the the night, however...

The only place in Sri Lanka without smiles

We stayed at the The Gateway Hotel Airport Garden Colombo in March 2013 to catch an early morning flight. We were put off by the unfriendly staff at reception and could not find one smiling person in the hotel - unusual for Sri Lsnka.
The bed was excellent, the room and bathroom good and the food excellent.
The new reception staff were no better at checkout. They even charged for the airport transfer, unusual for an airport hotel.
