Great hotel, terrible service
5.7
It's a beautiful hotel in a great location that is let down by such poor service. Also beware of the buffet breakfast that charges for an orange juice as well as usd for a child that's the hotel will charge you if you book through agoda.

Beautiful hotel. Amazing view from the rooms.
Gorgeous beach and pool area.
8.7
Very nice hotel with a great layout. Right on the beach. Breathtaking views of the ocean.
Surrounded by a safe little village with lots of options. Very clean rooms and surroundings. House keeping staff are very helpful. Each room has its own private balcony, perfect for waking up to or an afternoon nap.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Ask one of the pool staff to arrange for you to feed a giant sea turtle , big hit with the kids.

Best in Hikkaduwa, service a little laid back
Amazing balconies, great pool/beach, great location, good quality food
8.3
upon arrival we and our travel companions were offered twin rooms despite booking doubles. it was New Year time and hotel was v busy but even so it was dissappointing particularly when doubles were suddenly available again when pressured.
The room was excellent, modern and clean but the thing that sets this hotel above any other in Hikkaduwa is the balcony area in every room. All rooms look out over the wonderful pool and onto the beach with stunning sunsets every night. With large sofa/bed and dining table on the balcony we spent more time out there than in the room!
Food was always of an excellent quality, huge variety to suit all tastes and the breakfast spreads were particularly impressive.
NYE gala dinner was somewhat of a disaster as the Sri Lankan laid back approach to organisation failed to cope with seating arrangements for 300+ people. The food and the efforts to entertain were however excellent but we still left early and hit the local beach bars to see in NYE.
My one minor gripe and area for imprvement has to be the quality of service at the dining areas. Whilst the efforts of the staff cant be questioned they appeared to lack training and organisation. Simple tasks like obtainign a teaspoon or milk became daily jokes as they re-occured day after day. At the pool bar and restaurants the forgetfulnees and lack of organisation could get quite frustrating.
However given the hotels amazing setting most of these minro setbacks could be overlooked. Far and away the best hotel in Hikkaduwa and whilst it is expensive in comparison to all others in the area you definitely get what you pay for.

Lovely hotel and very friendly efficient service
Location,facilities, food
8.7
Hotel staff simply excellent whether bar, dining or room attendance. Nice pool with pool side loungers overlooking surf and superb friendly staff. Local beach guys very honest laying on good trips. Hotel experience great and visits to Galle whether sight seeing or dining very worthwhile. Hikkaduwa itself not that desirable for those beyond the back packing generation but hotel more than compensated.
Travel tip:
Galle and whale watching trips good, also lagoon and moonstone mine excursion worth doing

Perfect hotel in many ways
An oasis from the noise and hub hub of the traffic and roadway behind.
8.7
The Chaaya Tranz gardens with the ocean on 3 sides was perfect for our family re union of 8 adults. The service was courteous and prompt every time whether for drinks, room service or food and quality of food in The Crab restaurant was outstanding, albeit the menu a little short. The food for breakfast and dinner buffet was excellent with extensive and as good as it gets, bearing in mind we have travelled for 3 months for each of the last 5 years.
Galle is only a 10 usd return tuc tuc ride away and well worth a late afternoon trip with dinner at Deco restaurant on Lighthouse road. Enjoy

Good, comfortable hotel
Great breakfasts, great swimming pool, beautiful giant turtles outside the hotel
7.3
the hotel was very comfortable, decent size, nicely done up, with usual amenities. i particularly liked the balcony that came with the room facing the water. i stayed with my 2 kids and we had a triple room - each of us had a single bed.
highlights were the breakfasts - huge variety with an option of indoor and outdoor seating. the pool was really nice - great for the kids. towels provided next to the pool. and the location was good. at the north end of hikkaduwa beach, you had access to 2 beaches. on one side, rocks, but you could go through them to the main beach - which is wide and where most people swim. on the other side, is a narrower strip of beach with fishing boats. you get nice views out to the sea, with coconut trees and all that.
there are some fishermen that can get giant turtles to the beach. you have to pay but you get some amazing photo opps.
if you don't want to have your meals at the hotel, there are plenty of restaurants outside. we had one dinner buffet at the hotel and while the breakfasts were fantastic, i think the dinner was one of the worst meals i had in our 2 week trip!
they had a parking lot and drivers quarters and food were apparently good too.
the only complaint about the hotel was that they did not clean the rooms in the morning like i am used to. on all 3 days, i had to call them and ask them to come in to clean the room.
oh - and we were there on new year's eve. they had a massive party at the hotel but we weren't there for most of it but they did have fireworks and they partied till about 2am.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Look out for giant turtles outside the hotel around 9am.

Great stay
Location, fantastic view, well appointed rooms with great balconies that include a comfortable day bed sofa

We really enjoyed the Chaaya Tranz. The hotel has modern decor, well appointed rooms, a good pool and fantastic beachside location. The view from our fourth floor room was fabulous. The breakfast buffet was very good with a large selection of both western and Sri Lankan choices available. The Crab restaurant was also very good.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
A visit to Galle is an easy day or evening trip from the Chaaya Tranz and well worth avisit. There are buses that pass the front entrance or you can arrange a tuk tuk easily.
