Great rooms with spectacular view, befuddled staff
Great view, central location, good rooms
8.7
As its name suggests, the hotel is located on a hill-face overlooking Kandy city. From the rooms, you can get a great view of the bustle of the railway station, and also of the giant statue of a meditating Buddha on a nearby hill.
If you walk down to street-level, you'll find autos and other transport fairly easy.
The staff at this hotel is a little befuddled most times. They will listen to your requests, nod as if they understood and do something completely different -- so I wouldn't rely on them too much. The hotel usually handles large group-tourist entourages, so it may be harder for you to get good service if you're travelling on your own. But otherwise, this is a perfectly good hotel, perhaps one of the best in Kandy.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Kandy is a small town (at least the city-centre is small), and it's worth walking down to the touristy spots without bothering with autos and the like. The tooth relic shrine and downtown Kandy is about 30 mins walk from the hotel.

super old building and rooms but was on par with similar priced hotels in kandy. bed linen stained. restaurant was nice however pushy. i had to ask the head waiter for the a la carte menu 3 times before he would show me, kept pushing the buffet at 1800 rps per head. we thought the live music was pleasant until they serenaded us as we were about to leave and asked if we would buy their cd. most of the staff were friendly. wifi was 200 rps for one hour and slow. buffet breakfast was good. would be a great hotel if they refurbished rooms and were a little less pushy

i stayed in this hotel on 2 separate occasions, hence my more detailed review is given on the other visit. overall good value for money. however the hill walk to the hotel from the main road may be a real challenge.

nice view hotel with a pleasant atmosphere
modern atmosphere, clean, spacious
9.3
we stayed for only one night, but knowing the hotel, should have stayed a couple of days more. the hotel has a modern, clean esthetic setting, is spacious and the staff is very friendly and helpful. also the nice restaurant, with some live music ambiance were much appreciated. for visitors that aren't in a good physical condition it should be noted that there are many stairs and no lifts.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
the budhist temple of kandy is certainly a must visit. we attended the theatre near the temple with its traditional dancing that was brought by very enthusiastic people, i highly recommend.

I felt the hotel was good value for money. The location is central, however the hotel is situated on a steep hill, which you really cannot walk up on a daily basis! We had our own transport hence this was not an issue. The staff were very friendly and the hotel is nice for the price, also has a half decent pool to take a dip.

Enjoyed the stay.
Beware of the monkeys, they will steal from the rooms if the doors are left open.
Travel tip:
Get a tuk tuk to/from town
