Location, Hospitality, Cheerful and Friendly staff, Fine food Smoking. Hotel Management should enforce Anti Smoking policy in restaurant,lounges, reception areas and pool areas to bring it in line with all the International Hotels. During the past five years I have stayed in this hotel more than five occasions because I found the hotel and their staff are friendly and welcoming. The service is excellent. The rooms are serviced daily but the decor is somewhat outdated hence felt gloomy. The power outlets on the walls are worn and pins on of my portable appliance plugs like my electric tooth brush and cell phone charger adopters cannot be plugged in.

Gorgeous colonial building. Rooms and some amenities slightly dated. The Mount Lavinia Hotel is a beautiful colonial building on a hill overlooking the beach and Indian Ocean. The hotel is around 10KM outside of Colombo. The sea at this stretch of the coastline can be pretty rough, so guests beware! However, the beautiful pool and deck make up for that completely, and many wonderful sunsets may be viewed from there. Some of the hotel amenities and the rooms were a little shabby and faded, but, in all, this is still an excellent hotel.

Great atmosphere, wonderful colonial style building, friendly staff. It has it's own private beach! The shop owners in the shopping arcade are very persistant & will try their best to get you to look at thier merchandise even if you say you are not interested. My sister & I stayed at the Mount Lavinia from 06.12.08 to 12.12.08. It is a wonderful hotel. You arrive to a huge courtyard with a fountain in the middle & the hotel surrounds this are. Our room was in the Bay Wing. The room was on the ground floor & we had a lovelly large balcony too with wonderful sea views.This was great for my sister in particular as she smokes! The staff we found to be very pleasant & always had a smile. The food was excellant & the breakfast buffets were fantastic with a varied & wide choice of both Sri Lankan & western food.
Nightlife Tip : Just a short distance form the Mount Lavinia Hotel at Mount Lavinia beach are some great beach restaurants & beach life at night. Well worth checking out!
